Evil Dead(2013) Vs. Cabin in the Woods(2012)

Both are practically remakes of the original The Evil Dead so which one is the better film to you.

I love them both, and own Cabin In the Woods on Blu-Ray, but voted for The Evil Dead remake, because it was really gory, more gory than Cabin In The Woodswhich is how I love my horror films to be, and I will be purchasing the Evil Dead remake July 16th. Complete turn around for me, because when the Evil Dead remake was announced over a year ago, I was dead set against the remake, until earlier this year, I saw the first Red Band trailer, then I changed my mind, and actually saw it April 5th, and again two weeks later, which for me, I don't see movies more than once theatrically before they come out on Blu-Ray.

I haven't seen The Evil Dead remake yet, but the trailers for Evil Dead entertained me a hell of a lot more than all of Cabin in the Woods did. I really don't understand all of the love that Cabin in the Woods got. Every ten years or so, a filmmaker comes along and seems to think that they have to do something clever and different with the horror genre. No, you don't. The genre is just fine without some pompous filmmakers thinking they're clever enough to "re-invent" it. More filmmakers need to find better and more clever ways to unsettle the viewer rather than point and laugh and old cliche's that have been pointed and laughed at to death at which point you actually become that which you are attempting to parody.

I've seen them both but it's too early to decide. I enjoyed each, but haven't had time to let them sink in with repeat viewings.

I enjoyed Cabin in the Woods a lot, but thought the Evil Dead remake was lousy.

Clever and different are good things in my book. I thought Cabin in the Wood was a Evil Dead remake for about twenty minutes, but then it became something else. Hey, I'm not even a Joss Whedon fanboy (never seen an episode of Buffy!), but I thought the screenplay quite good. I haven't seen the actual Evil Dead remake, but I think I get the gist from the trailer, something you can't quite say about Cabin in the Woods (not the trailer I saw anyway).

Hey, I'm all for doing something different. What I'm saying is take clever and different in a scary and unsettling direction other than constantly pointing out and bringing attention to the cliche's in horror movies cause poking fun at the cliche's in the horror genre is becoming a cliche' in itself. It's tired already.

Cabin In The Woods, no contest.

The Evil Dead remake was atrocious.

ThisEvilBastard 06-25-2013 05:30 PM

To me Evil Dead didn't have any likability like Cabin in the Woods has Marty was so fun and broke the sterotype of the pothead character by being smart and Cabin had intelligence and shouldve been as groundbreaking as Scream. As for Evil Dead(2013) it was pointless. Fans have been asking for a Part 4 for years but we got was a thrown together film that is a disresecptull to the true Evil Dead & Horror fans.

Ive preordered it and I'm going to try and give it a scend chance.

I can't decide either. I would have to re-watch each of them. Find out which had better quotes and such and then make a call. I have a feeling Cabin in the Woods has the edge on characters but Evil Dead remake has the edge on gore/kills.

Have you seen it yet?

Disrespectful. D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T-F-U-L. Disrespectful.

Use it in a sentence, please. "ThisEvilBastard is disrespectful towards the English language."

I'll let a few things slide, like people who use "The Shinning" and "Bird With the Crystal Plummage", but man, you aren't even close on "disrespectful".

Cabin in the Woods. Inventive, funny, and full of gore and great easter eggs for longtime horror fans.

The Evil Dead remake was very entertaining but nowhere near what CITW achieved.

I'm really shocked by the fact you consider Cabin in the Woods an Evil Dead remake...
Well, I'm not that shocked as this is from the guy who thinks Busta can act.

Agreed on both counts. It's almost as if he read the title of the film and stopped there.

My thoughts exactly. Both good films but Cabin In the Woods seems a little more rewarding and deeper.
