Your Top 10 films of 2013

Well being at a geographical disadvantage I still have not hd the following available to me, American Hustler, Her, Frances Ha, The Grandmaster, Computer Chess or Blue is the Warmest Color. But here is my top 10 of the year as it stands at years end.

1. Mud
2. Gravity
3. The Spectacular Now
4. The Way Way Back
5. Prisoners

6. Byzantium
7. The Place Beyond the Pines
8. The World's End
9. To the wonder
10. This is the End

I have seen 0 2013-released movies so far but have a lot of interest in Leviathan, Frances Ha, and Gravity.

I'm... curious about Byzantium, but this film should be the perfect excuse for hollow flash (more amusement park chaos/carnage, please!). Seems to take itself too seriously, and really- don't we kind of have Twilight for that? (Just a thought.)

(Oh yeah, I saw a lengthy review with clips and all a few months back. I feel I know the movie well enough to doubt I'd be missing out.)

Well it is nothing like Twilight and I mostly like good serious films, so byzantium was right up my alley. Twilight is more of an "are you serious?" kind of film. Byzantium plays like a sister film to Interview with the vampire.

Non-horror, Mud, Prisoners, Kings Of Summer, and Pain & Gain come to mind.

The answer to that question is: yes, they most certainly were. The last one was directed by the guy behind Gods and Monsters.

And I just found out that One Direction concert movie... was directed by Morgan Spurlock.

(Crazy fuckin' world.)

the rest of your top 10 is horror then?

Paff 12-27-2013 01:05 AM

don't have 10, but here are the 2013 movies that I enjoyed:

1. A Band Called Death
2. Gravity
3. Moral Sleaze
4. The World's End
5. Mud
6. World War Z
7. Hunger Games: Catching Fire
8. Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman

Still hoping to see Ender's Game and 12 Years a Slave during my Xmas break here. Edited to add: forgot Gravity. Also, even though IMDB lists Machine Gun Woman as a 2012 movie, it didn't get released even in it's own country of Chile till May of 2013 so I'm counting it.

I loved a Band called Death but I never include doco's along with regular features. Blackfish was another good doco from this year.

Yeah, I have not seen very many movies this year, let alone ten that I liked.

Of the ones I've seen, I enjoyed Pacific Rim, The Hobbit DOS, and Only God Forgives. I've been meaning to see Byzantium and A Band Called Death.

I think the other movies I've seen this year were Elysium, World War Z, Texas Chainsaw and The Evil Dead Remake...all of which I loathed immensely.

Perhaps a more fitting thread for the site would be Top Ten DVD/BD releases of 2013?

The older I get, the fewer new movies I see, instead I just rewatch classics or older films I never got around to watching. But from what I did see this year, here are my favorites:

1. Short Term 12
2. Before Midnight
3. Gravity
4. Found (Played at a lot of the same festivals as my film The Invoking. Probably the most celebrated indie horror film of the year with around 30 film festival award wins. It should be coming to home video next year.)
5. The Conjuring
6. Iron Man 3
7. Star Trek Into Darkness
8. West of Memphis
9. Crystal Lake Memories
10. The World's End
