Box Office Mojo lists
Cabin in the Woods as a "nationwide" release for April 13th. So barring a last minute theater reduction (aka limited release), it should get a 1,500-2,500 theater count.
In short, the reviews make it seem like the next
Scream -- aka meta deconstruction of horror trends (torture porn, Asian remakes, et al). I don't know if it'll be a sleeper hit like
Scream, but who knows?
I'm not a die-hard Joss Whedon fan, but I've liked a lot of his output. Not everything he touches is instant gold, but I do like his self-deprecating and witty personality.
Cabin in the Woods and
The Avengers look to be one of the brighter spots of 2012, movie-wise.
