This trailer shows Steven actually hit Sheriff Brody with the baseball bat. The theatrical version only implies the violence by using realistic sound effects. Does anyone know if this movie was cut before release or if there are longer, international versions available? This movie came out in 1981 when everything else was getting heavily censored: Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Happy Birthday to Me, Eyes of a Stranger, The Burning and The Prowler. I suppose it's possible the MPAA got their hands on this one too.
