As always, in no particular order:

Dawn Of The Dead '78
The Thing '82
The Shining
The Descent
Let The Right One In
King Kong '33
Horror Express
The Exorcist
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '74
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers '78
Zombie (aka Zombi 2)
The Fog
Dellamorte Dellamore
Prophecy '79
Ooooo. Horror Express! I may have to re-re-edit my list to fit that one in somewheres. It's funny that I didn't even think about that one, seeing as how I'm waiting for the blu-ray to arrive from Deep Discount.

I guess that there is no real set age limit since people have introductions to the genre earlier or later than life depending on the strictness of their parents. Mine were incredibly lenient so I got a very early education with The Incredible Melting Man being my first true horror movie theatrical experience at age 5. Since you mention Prophecy '79, that as well as Dracula '79 were two others I saw at around the same time frame at the movies but for whatever reason they don't elicit the same sense of nostalgia that Melting Man does for me.
