Deeper than the usual feeling

List horror films that go beyond your average slice-n-dice slasher and show depth, emotion, and character development.

Candyman
Carrie
A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Ring
The Mothman Prophecies
Pet Sematary (as much as I hate the ending, the parents were well written and well cast)
My Little Eye
The Exorcist
Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
Wait Until Dark
The Silence of the Lambs
Session 9
Donnie Darko (if you want to count that as horror)

About half of your picks are movies that were based on best selling books. Interesting...
