Fright Night remake ... already happened in 1989

Night Visitor (1989) steals the story line of Fright Night but not only that, it also uses the exact same characters in 'disguise': boy (Charley Brewster-type) cries wolf when his next door neighbor/hooker Lisa (Shannon Tweed-hot!) gets murdered by a Satanist (Jerry Dandrige-type), who also happens to be his History Teacher at School. His best buddy (Evil Ed-type) and on/off girlfriend (Amy Peterson-type) won't believe him, and neither does his single and night shift working mom (Judy Brewster-type). Boy seeks out help from a washed-up ex-cop (Peter Vincent-type) and together they face the evil History Teacher and his retarded brother (Billy Cole-type: Jerry Dandrige's sidekick).
I'm surprised Columbia didn't sue the makers of Night Visitor... even a blind person would notice those 'similarities'.

Anyone remember this movie? MGM/Sony released this somewhat halfbaked horror-thriller/comedy on disc September 20th. Presented in 1.85:1 Anamorphic widescreen (transfer is a bit soft but ok) with one Theatrical Trailer as a extra.

Sounds like a blatant ripoff, but is it good?

Yeah, I've never heard of this one. I'd be interested to know if this is any good; I watched FRIGHT NIGHT recently and it really didn't entertain me the way it did in 1985. Maybe I wasn't in the mood.

It's not really good but didn't completely suck either. I'd rate it 5/10.

I seem to vaguely recall seeing this one many years ago. I did see the DVD out for rent the other day, maybe I should pick it up.

Columbia and MGM are both a part of the Sony empire now, so I guess they can't still sue within the family tree, eh?

No idea! I'd figure that would probably complicate things... somehow

I wish they'd release Fright Night with some good extras. Night Visitor sounds interesting. Maybe I'll pick it up sometime.

Wow. Billy is right. That was one big obvious rip off of Fright Night. Some scenes were so similar I felt like I had been transported to some bizarro Fright Night world where the whole great cast has been replaced with C movie versions of themselves. I didn't like that Fright Night world. It was strange and kind of boring, and there was no Jerry Dandrige. There was no Jerry Dandrige at all.

Fright Night has been remade again under the title Never Cry Werewolf (2008) and they didn't just copy little things. Jerry Dandrige-type (called "Jared") and his sidekick (Billy Cole-type: a German shepherd) move in next to some chick (her mom, the Judy Brewster-type, is always gone) who is a hybrid of Charley Brewster and Amy Peterson. She soon realizes that her new neighbor is a werewolf (she watches him murder a hooker through her window with a telescope). Nobody believes her except maybe for the Evil Ed-type who has the hots for her. They seek help from a burned out TV series actor (Peter Vincent-type: Kevin Sorbo) and together they try to destroy the beast. Unlike Night Visitor (1989) this blatant rip-off was actually more enjoyable.

yeah billy, it was a huge ripoff of Fright Night, but I found it quite enjoyable nonetheless!

Night Visitor is pretty awful. It's odd because it seems like some of the actors thought they were making a comedy and some thought they were making the scariest, most serious horror film of all time.

It's not really worth watching
