Anyone else like this flick, I just got a xrated copy & have watched it twice. For arthouse sleaze this blows away Salo. Great cast, some funny monents, a little blood & lots of sex & nudity. It also helps that I read alot about the roman empire in school, but my friends loved it as well.

Saw the uncut version about 10 years ago. Crazy sex scenes, and some pretty decent gore if I remember right. Wasn't there some scene with some large contraption beheading people buried up to their heads?

Maybe I'll have to watch it again.
I thought it was too damned slow, and the production values were not up to snuff - every scene looks like a cheap high school stage set to me. All high profile names be damned (Brass, Vidal, McDowell, O'Toole, Mirren... hell, Gielgud for God's sakes) I just wasn't all that impressed with the direction, script and acting. Compare Caligula's production values with those of Playboy's production of Roman Polanski's Macbeth, and Guccione just gets his ass whipped. Lastly, I never thought I'd defend Salo but at least Salo had better pace and scene composition than Caligula. As far as which is more 'outrageous', Caligula or Salo, it's probably a tie. |

Oh yeah, that website is essential viewing/reading for any fans of the film!
I was obsessed with this film when I got it back in 2000, shortly after getting my first DVD player. At the time I wasn't into Eurohorror or Mondo and thought nothing could ever be as shocking (other than flat-out porn). But for my money, Goodbye Uncle Tom will leave you with a much more disturbing feeling than Caligula ever could. At the same time, however, some of those sex scenes just run the gamut, don't they? It also has one of the best lesbian scenes I have ever seen. And the immortal line, "All right, my Little Fishees!"

Not that that doesn't take away from the amusement factor though. |

I had two feeling while watching this film. One, I felt like I had walked in on a lot of great actors taking a shit. I didn't like that feeling. Two, I felt bored. Really, really bored. I didn't like that feeling either. Being bored is a drag. Honestly, this movie gave Caligula a worse name, and that's hard to do. Last edited by onebyone; 01-17-2006 at 03:37 AM. |

![]() I was gonna post some serious film analysis conjecture about the 'missing 54 minutes', but that just made me laugh, and reminded me not to take this film too seriously. |

I agree that its slow at times, Its a movie you should show non-genre fans to shock the shit out of them. I know its not a masterpiece, for me its just cheesey, sleazey fun! but seeing scenes like
Spoiler: Mcdowell screw a new bride then fist the groom is CRAZY!!By the way how do I make the spolier alert box? Last edited by Enutz666; 01-17-2006 at 03:53 AM. |

I totally forgot I have this movie in my collection. I only watched it once and that's when I first purchased it. I think I'll watch it this weekend.
