Beware of The Murder Secret!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097929/

Just recently I bought this movie from EC Entertainment. It's a cross between a giallo and a slasher (got this description from the cover) and it's a total piece of

Never a fan of Gabriele Tinti, but here he's slumming and it's symbolic for the Italian film industry from that time. A movie that seems to be made at your neighbours country house/farm, it has atrocious acting, phenomally bad dubbing, a story as thin perforated paper and unsatisfying gore!

Check this : a scene where a little, annoying kid has his head sawn off with a chainsaw lasts about 10 seconds and goes as quickly as it comes. Oh yeah, credit where credit is due, but it seems to me that Dead End (the one with Ray Wise) has ripped off the ending of this one, although they did it better themselves and less confusing.

Seems the good folk of EC Entertainment knew what they had gotten themselves mixed up with, so this is on their DVD :

* a superb full frame transfer (apparently OAR) that seems taped off from a VHS. Some drop-outs and it makes the movie harder to look at than it already is

* an English and Italian dub but no subs, although it was mentioned on the cover

* a running time of 86 minutes on the cover, my DVD-player says 101 minutes, but after 86 minutes it justs stops!

* although it has a nice cover, it has absolutely no connection to what's contained inside

Directed by Mario Bianchi (who's doing porn now) and supervised by Lucio Fulci, this is bottom-of-the-barrell shlock. Some of the gore effects have that late 80's charm, but it seriously isn't worth the 14 € (how much is that in dollars?) that I stupidly paid for it! Be warned...

thanks for the tip! I've got The Murder Secret on VHS, but as a Fulci completist, I'm interested in this title on DVD. most of the EC stuff eventually makes its way to another label, so I'll just wait. Thanks again for the warning.

For aficionados of fake severed heads only. This is just another one of these hyper-cheap Italian flicks that practically shriek "made for obscure Italian cable channel" and other than possibly maggot wrangling, I'm not real sure what Lucio Fulci had to do with anything other than give Mario pointers on how to shoot a really ugly movie. The DVD is pretty crappy with a grainy full frame picture that only adds to the movie's "1980s straight to video" vibe. Dubbing is suitably atrocious, though Italian language and English subtitles are available for that authentic feel (though anyone who really wants to see this can't read, so I'm not sure why that option is available). EC tops off their weak package with a still gallery that consists entirely of two stills! They also manage to misspell Mario Bianchi's name in the credits on the back of the box as "Biancho" when citing him as the director, even though they spelled it correctly a few lines up when they were accusing him of writing it. All in all, the package compliments the film perfectly.
Read http://monsterhunter.coldfusionvideo...er_Secret.html for the complete story, just so you don't have to watch it
And 14 Euro is about $18 (it's 19,99 @ Xploited).

The scene where the little kid gets his head sawn off on the bike was later reused in Fulci's "Cat in the Brain". Fulci took all these gore scenes from various shitty late 80's Italian movies, and combined them to make one hell of an entertaining movie! Cat in the Brain is great fun, plus you get to see all the good gore scenes from these shitty movies without having to see the shitty movies!
