The Brood and the Scanners Trilogy Blu-rays (UK)

Independent British distributors Second Sight Films have revealed that they are preparing Blu-ray releases of David Cronenberg's The Brood (1979), starring Oliver Reed, Samantha Eggar and Art Hindle, and the three Scanners films: Scanners (1981), Scanners II: The New Order (1991), and Scanners III: The Takeover (1992).

Exact technical specs and supplemental features to be included with these upcoming releases are unknown at the moment. However, the distributors have indicated that they should be available on the market in late 2012/early 2013.

As usual, Blu-ray.com will update you with more information as soon as such becomes available.

Three Scanners films and two spin-offs (Scanner Cop series). While they might have related characters, they aren't in the sense true sequels.

Will definitely be picking up both The Brood and the Scanners Trilogy on Blu.

Will definitely get the Scanners BD if it's remastered, the German Blu-ray I have was quite disappointing quality wise.

Don't think I've watched The Brood since a VHS copy in the early 90's so will probably pick that up too.

I'm probably in the minority but I thought the quality wasn't too shabby. I own movies on blu-ray that look much worse.

I remember reading about Scanners II in Fangoria back in the day. The producer or Director promised three versions: a gore free version for TV, an R-Rated version and a over-the-top gory version for the Asian market. I'm guessing the extra-gory version never happened? Either way, I might grab those Scanners blus.

Scanners 2 and 3 are also going to be released individually in standard packaging on the same day.
The releases will be Region Free, details of bonus features to be announced this week.

Why couldn't they just release all 3 in the steelbook as a collectors edition then ?

I was under the impression this is the way it was going to be. I think not including the sequels with the original is a mistake and will backfire badly for Second Sight. With the rumored Criterion release for Scanners, many people (especially in region 1) will want to grab that version and if anybody wants the sequels they'll go with Shout's edition. But I don't think anyone is going to buy ALL the upcoming releases from all the different labels. I would've chosen Second Sight's Scanners trilogy Blu, even over the Criterion, but now I know what I'm NOT buying. Thanks for making it easier

Because alot of people only want the first one and steelbooks cost alot to produce.

If Criterion is confirmed some time before this steelbook release, then Criterion will get my money. I don't care much for the sequels at all, so if there is no Criterion, I'll get this steelbook for sure.

This decision seems stupid to me. They should have released the trilogy in the steelbook (like Basket Case) and the single discs in regular keep cases. I am sure many will go for Criterion + the sequels from Shout instead of 3 single discs by Second Sight. A trilogy steel would have been their plus in contrast to the US releases.
