Body Count ~ Ruggero Deodato
http://www.amazon.it/Camping-Del-Ter...hu-rd_add_1_dp
English audio option. I have never seen this, but I read it's not that good. Still I'm interested. I have a few Deodato movies and quite like them. Will keep an eye on this. |

Ruggero Deodato directing a film with David Hess and Mimsy Farmer should be a sure recipe for an enjoyable exploitation movie, but unfortunately, it isn't as good as one could have hoped. Overall, it feels like a tired retread of better movies made earlier in the decade, but there are a couple of interesting scenes, and the young cast is mostly attractive. I'd recommend it to diehard slasher completists or anyone with a taste for cheesy 80's horror.

I had to resort to YouTube to see it a few years back. I loved it.
For a Deodato film, if you're expecting something with the impact of Cannibal Holocaust or House At The Edge Of The Park, then you're going to be disappointed. But if you're looking for a simple late '80s teens-in-the-woods slasher flick, then it's a heck of a lot of fun. If you enjoyed flicks like Cheerleader Camp or Moonstalker, then you'll probably enjoy it. I'm surprised it has never been released in the U.S. at all! A DVD is long overdue. |

I liked it too. Have a bootleg of sorts. Definitely deserves some kind of US official DVD release. Is it the best slasher, no, but it's follows the same campy woodsy formula that would appeal to most of us.

Wow. I have the local DVD released ages ago and I thought this movie was extraordinarily dull. No other word for it. The characters just stumble about until they die or the movie ends. Their "friends" get killed and they go on with their weekend like nothing's happened!!
Even the latter F13 films are better than this snoozefest! I liked Simonetti's score, but that's about it. But I do have a very low tolerance for 'boring' slasher films.

I like the film. It's not great, but if you like most 80's slashers you'll probably enjoy it.
I do own the OOP R 4 DVD from Australia which is uncut.

I've got the German E-M-S DVD released in 2001. I don't think it's cut, but I'm not 100% sure as i have nothing else to compare it to. The movie is a bit slow, but the Claudio Simonetti score is pretty good. You gotta see it if you're a fan of Deodato, Italian horror, or slasher films!

I have the R4 DVD Katatonia refers to and like you, I'm not sure about it. if I hadn't known it was uncut, I would actually think it is. The original VHS is rated R (restricted, 18+). The DVD is rated M, which is only an advisory classification, so anybody can see it. As for as I see it, there's not much violence or gore to be had in the cut I've seen, so it's original classification is mystifying to me.

Here are comparisons between the DVD releases: http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=3076
It looks like the E-M-S DVD is also uncut. It's the UK DVD which is cut.

The version I saw on YouTube was definitely a cut version. It's weird because in the trailer, you can actually see the guy's fingers getting cut off. But in the movie, it isn't shown at all. Seems strange that it's okay for the trailer, but not the movie.
I'd be curious to check out the uncut version. Are any of the DVDs out there in widescreen? |

No, none are. Unless the Italian DVD turns out to be in widescreen.

Someone mentioned in another thread that the Italian DVD is uncut and widescreen!
Anyone have this disc? Tell me more. Extra features? Region free? Screencaps? |

I saw it on YouTube. Normally nudity is edited out, but some slip by. Body Count was one of them. It was from a VHS rip I would assume, and at one point audio sounds like super slow motion. It went on for several minutes, but doesn't seem like I missed anything major.
Overall it was just ok. Not great, but not the worst, I'd rate it about 3 out of 5 maybe a 2.5 |
