Suspiria: Limited Edition

Thanks, Dave for confirming the Suspiria covers. I can't even begin to tell you how many covers I have seen on the net. The Limited Edition (the one I will be getting of course) has the best cover. It's the image from the original video release and posters that were classic!

I do hope the disc will contain the original U.S. theatrical trailer which, though schlocky was sooo cool and very indicative of the promotional ideals of the time. I used to have an old video release with countless classic horror trailers on it... I watched it too much and it deteriorated. Basically, it was a woman sitting at a vanity reciting "Roses are red, violets are blue..." as she fixes her hair. She combs it, puts a flower in it (a blue iris, I believe.... ingenius huh?) and then when the final phrase of the rhyme comes it is twisted into something appropriatly demented and the woman turns around and she is a skeleton. The Suspiria logo fills the screen and it's pulsating hearts shaping the letters. Like I said, kinda schlocky but certainly a momento worthy of the discs.

I used to have a book that had photos of all the little gimicks the studios used to get people in the theatre. Such as little wrapped up red squares that were labeled as pieces of The Blob; buttons that said "I Survived The Exorcist;" and so on. I know there was something they did like that for Suspiria, but I can't remember what it was. The book was stolen from me, I could kill the creep that did that. Wouldn't it be cool if the limited edition had a reproduction of such a little gimick? Well, Anchor Bay... it's something to think about for future editions. lol

You're welcome, David.

Did you know I had that Suspiria trailer on the site at one time? In the downloads section? I think I pulled it for space reasons, but I do still have it.

Yeah, that US trailer of Suspiria is on the fabulous Image laserdisc, along with a European one that looks like it was done by Dieter, the host of Sprockets (SNL joke).

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but late last year the local "art house" cinema showed two old 3-D disco porn movies from the 70s. (think Boogie Nights cheese X 10). In one scene (non-"action", of which most of the movies were), a kid is in his room, and the classic Suspiria poster is hanging on the wall. Funny thing is, that same poster would fetch big $$$ on E-bay today. Just a prop in a porn film...

It would almost be cool to throw that scene onto the limited edition of Suspiria (hell, it's more relevant than the music video on The Beyond disc)

The limited edition is going to be 3 discs. The first being the movie and the same disc you get in the standard edition. The second disc is a 45 minute documentary on the movie featuring modern day interviews with cast members etc. The third is the Goblin soundtrack CD.

About LIMITED EDITION

Will the discs be packaged in tin or just plain bigger DVD cases (like Halloween, Super Girl)?

Even though I cant wait for the limited edition to come out, I think the tentative cover is better looking than the final cover. The earlier one had such a purtee green cover . Got a question though, isn't Opera supposed to be released on the same day Suspiria is released (September 11th)?

I'm guessing that Opera will come out on Sept. 25th. If you have noticed AB's DVD's come out once every two weeks, and no date is solid until it comes up on their website, and even then they still might bump it back a bit.

Unhappy

I want to see that new "Suspiria" documentary, which means I'll have to shell out for the rather expensive Limited Edition. Why couldn't Anchor Bay have stuck the documentary on the Standard Edition also ?. The new "Opera" documentary apparently WILL be on the Standard Edition of "Opera", so why didn't they do it this way with "Suspiria", as well ?. Bloody hell. Guess "Suspiria" is the "Queen of the Argento's". (Mind you, I don't really care about those extra soundtrack CDs.)

Cool I hate this limited edition business...

In fact, I like Anchor Bay's Limited Edition Tins, but about the "Suspiria" why don't they just include the documentary to the same disc? Why don't they press the disc as a dual side edition if they run out of space? And moreover, I think it won't be packaged in tin, just an ordinary keep case (possibly bigger)

And by the way, Opera won't come out in Sep. 25, instead it will be available at the same date with Suspiria!!!!! (Sep. 11)

I think having the documentary on a single disc is kind of a waste and think it is a poor choice on AB's behalf. I imagine their reasoning in doing this is that because of the inclusions of the DD 5.1 EX and DTS ES soundtracks, there was no room to fit the documentary on. I don't know about you, but I think that people would have been perfectly content with just a DD 5.1 track. Suspiria is pretty old, and I just can't see the need for two beefed up soundtracks. At three discs this disc doesn't have the wealth of supplements I had hoped for, but that Goblin music disc should be killer though!
