I'm glad I bought the Anchor Bay DVD back in 2001 or whenever that was. Absolutely beautiful 2.35:1 16x9 enhanced transfer and it's got the cool trailer, which isn't listed on the back of 20th Century Fox's DVD. For those of you that have the Fox DVD, is it the same transfer from Anchor Bay's disc? Is the trailer included? I notice that Trinity has the Fox cover art on their site.

We have the Fox DVD at work for $5.50... I might pick it up quickly before this comes out.

They're the R rated theatrical cuts.

Jesus. Maybe we'll get an uncut version with extras someday. I mean, there's obviously money being made on this title for three companies to release it within five years of each other.

Are you listening, Dark Sky? Blue Underground? Anyone....?

I would like to know myself. I did a little online research but couldn't find any info about the Fox release/transfer or how it compares to the AB disc.

Does anyone know if any gore was cut to get the R rating? Cause I think I remember reading somewhere that King had a hard time with the MPAA over his first cut.

There are a couple of threads on this if you do a search...I'm not sure how to post a link within the site. Sorry. But yes, there were quite a few small cuts made. I'd love to see it finally released uncut on DVD...with a King commentary track, of course.

Is the AB disc OOP? I've had it for years but never noticed...

As for the cuts (from IMDB):

There are three moments adding up to twelve seconds of footage missing from the final version of Maximum Overdrive. The footage was removed to avoid an X rating (due to the available rating system and standards of 1986). The removed shots were:

- Six seconds of the Dixie Boy shoot out.
- Three seconds of the steam roller running over the boy.
- Three seconds of the salesman's face falling into his lap.

Thanks Cannabis. Yeah, it would be nice if that footage ever sees the light of day on DVD.
