Here's what appears to be a widescreen clip at YouTube from some bootleg company ...

I don't understand why this film hasn't found it's way on DVD yet, damnit

I just watched this for the first time last week. The beginning rolls the plot out in rapid fire order, rapidly hilarious that is. The middle gets a little slow but the last 30 minutes pick up and get pretty fun. Worth the watch.

Going through my newspaper ads, I have one of this film from the San Francisco Chronicle and it's their big claim.

Thatís what it says on the cover of the VHS anyway. The movie is pretty good, but for me the main attraction is Mr. Bo Svenson, who plays the extremely homophobic police chief. All of his lines are priceless.

Just watched this for the first time on a film print at the Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle. It was part of the Cinemapocalypse series put on by The Alamo Drafthouse. A couple of guys from the Drafthouse introduced it and said that it had "the greatest first eight minutes of any movie ever". I didn't agree with that assessment, but it was a great opening scene (and very reminiscent of the opening to The Descent). The performances were all great, especially what I'd say were career bests by Susan Tyrrell and Bo Svenson. Add me to the list of those who can't wait for the Code Red DVD this summer (hopefully)!

The film is pretty uneven, but it's all the insanity in spurts that makes this a winner and another fine example of how all those low budget horror flicks in the eighties really stand apart. Much of it feels like a spin-off of Taboo, with Tyrell leering over her nephew at every moment. Svenson is indeed hilarious as the homophobe. You almost expect him to go all Chris Cooper in American Beauty and start making out with the lead. This is the kind of weird flick that would fit perfectly in the Code Red library. Hopefully we get it soon.

What's with the titles? Whether you're calling it Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker or Night Warning, neither really make much sense at all in context with the story.

Haha for real, eh? I always wondered the same thing with the various titles this one's been given. The tagline on the old Thorn-EMI VHS is the same type of deal:

"They didn't go looking for trouble. They were just too curious. Now they know too much to live..."

WTF?

Heh. Yeah, not even close. How 'bout:

"His aunt is horny. The sheriff's gay. And he's late for basketball practice. Night Warning."

I love it! I'd totally see a movie with that tagline!

And Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker - by whatever title - is probably my single most anticipated Code Red release. Get it out already!
