Too bad most men are never hung like the men in XXX flicks.

Ha! Whoops how did that get in there? ...Dobby, keeping it classy as always. Ha!

LSOW was actually in this box of movies I bought off this dude. There were a few other pornographic titles, but none of them had clever titles or were in a big box, so I chucked em'. I have no interest in "used" porn...I didn't even want to touch the shit...the idea of owning other dude's "whack off material" creeps me out.

I didn't even notice the porn. All I saw was The Prey! Knowing how much that movie goes for on ebay.au I thought "cool". I have a few downloads of that movie, I haven't watched them yet though. All I really want to know is, is it worth $150-200? The box art isn't that special, from memory, but it was a Video Classics release, and they are highly collectible.

I grabbed the Thorn / EMI clamshell VHS on e-bay for about $10 a few years back. I'm not a big fan of the movie, but it is a fun little backwoods slasher. $10 was about right for it, definitely not worth $150 - $200.

That's what I thought. Pretty much the reason I have never attempted to chase down a copy. Satan's Blade sells for similarly ridiculous amounts, but try as I might, I cannot find a copy of that one.

Whoa, no shit? I didn't realise it was that rare. I do own Satan's Blade on VHS in the original Prism clamshell case...but I'm not selling it.

I do prefer Satan's Blade to The Prey, but I probably wouldn't pay more than $10 for that one either. Maybe $15.

Your NTSC tapes wouldn't sell for anywhere close to what the local market pays for these tapes.

The reason Satan's Blade is so collectible is because of the label it was on - Palace Explosive. In much the same way as The Prey is collectible on the Video Classics label. Both were large video distributors in the 80s here in Australia, hence the collectibility. I don't think it's the films themselves, as such, that people collect. Palace Explosive was largely their horror/exploitation label with titles such as The Beyond, Madman, I Spit On Your Grave, Rape Squad (which is really rare!!), The Slayer, The Evictors, Cannibal Apocalypse, etc. I have a lot of these titles myself, but Satan's Blade and The Prey are probably a couple of the rarest in the collector market.

You mean a PAL VHS release though right? Satan's Blade was released by Prism here in North America.

Uh, yeah. Hence the reason I clearly mentioned Australia (and your tapes being NTSC).

Prom Night aside, I would never pay big money for one of those crappy, cardboard cased NTSC video tapes. I'd be more likely to look for a UK version if it came to that. Besides, the North American collectors would price me out on the NTSC tapes that actually are collectible! But I guess that's the thing, isn't it? For the most part, the VHS market is nearly always a local one. That's certainly been my experience. Thankfully though, I've never had to pay big money for Prom Night tapes, regardless of the format. No, actually, I tell a lie. I was prepared to pay big money for a mint Australian Embassy clamshell (with original case that had been taken out of a shops inventory very early on), but it never came to that. A bit more than I wanted, but not a massive price, although I was quite surprised I wasn't the only bidder, TBH.

Despite the death of VHS as a format, the collector market for it is still quite strong here, providing you have the right product to sell. If you thought $150 was high, you should see what preview tapes and distributors brochures sell for - holy crap!!!! Sometimes I trawl ebay just to see how the market is going, and for a good OMG. What? You paid that much, for.... that? Collectors even more rabid than me, apparently.

Yep, overlooked that at the beginning.

I finally got around to watching this one - and I enjoyed it. Go in with low expectations- it was filmed in 13 days on a 30,000 budget and some first time actors (including the lead). But it had its moments and was fun - especially check out the Joe Bob Briggs Drive In Total and trailer for Dont Go In The Attic that are in the special features. How old is the Director/Writer/Actor for this one? He looks like he is in college. Not great but not terrible- and I love the dance scene!

Also I have not had a chance to view the vhs tape yet- I had read a couple reviews that state what they were trying to pull off with the early 80's look actually looks much better on the vhs tape - not sure if anyone has watched both and can confirm or deny that statement.

Here's my take on it:

I know they want to give the illusion of "tracking issues" but christ you can't use the tracking to fix these. So pointless.
