Day of the Dead Happinet Blu-ray 09/04/12

http://www.amazon.co.jp/死&#38...8092380&sr=1-1

I just pre-ordered this from Amazon.jp for the low low price of $68.75 (including $25 to ship to the U.S.). I have the Anchor Bay and Arrow Blu-rays, so I can provide a comparison once I receive it. I have the Happinet NOTLD and am very pleased with it which is why I bought this.

I clicked translate & this is what it says as far as features go. Since it's a direct translation, it may read a little funny.

Lane Meyer. Hysterical. "I know I'm just a cartoon and all, but I was wondering if you'd mind if I took out Beth." Classic. As far as the extras on the disc, I don't believe there's anything new. I'm hoping the original audio is intact.

Buck-
What's the Japanese BR of NOTLD like? How does it look in terms of framing? I've assumed the miramax HD scan has been used everywhere, weird framing and all.

Sorry nsacci, I didn't see your post until now. The Happinet blu-ray is the Miramax transfer. It's unique in that the "One for the Fire" documentary is in HD as well, and the disc is 50gb, unlike any of the other NOTLD blu-rays.

I was debating about buying the NOTLD Happinet blu-ray. I don't have NOTLD on Blu yet and would like a add this to my collection. Any suggestions for the definitive version to get? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the Happinet Japanese release is the best one going so far. A little pricey though:

I have the UK Network blu-ray which is region free and the Dimension DVD which will do just fine for me. Just out of curiousity, what exactly makes the Happinet Day of the Dead worth almost $70? Am I missing something?

Not yet. It's just a leap of faith on my part. They dedicate an entire 50gb disc to their films generally thus the bitrate is higher (such as the NOTLD release). I'm hoping the original audio receives an upgrade as well as the video.

It's probably not, that's just what this kind of media sells for in Japan. The Japanese Prom Night box set cost me $100 (with coupons and discounts that I saved up!!). In comparison you can pick up the Australian Prom Night box set for $20. If I were to order than same box today, with post it would cost me the best part of $130. Now you can see why I paid close attention to the discounts CDJapan gave me!

Even going back to DVDs infancy, Japan was always expensive. I think the UK and parts of Europe are quite similar (esp. those limited edition numbers from Germany for movies that are worth about $10!!). Not necessarily as hideous as Japanese prices, but comparatively, they are quite expensive.

I think while prices in some countries have come down as the media was becoming more readily available, other countries haven't evolved with us, so to speak.

Of the $68.75 I paid, $25 of it was shipping. While that's still a high overall price, I know there won't be any issues with the delivery. As I said before, I'd pay twice that amount if it was Dawn of the Dead Happinet was releasing.

No, it doesn't come out until September 4th. Don't worry, I'll post my thoughts just as soon as I'm finished watching it.

I'm pretty set with my Arrow blu-ray and Anchor Bay two-disc set, but I'd be interested in reading your thoughts on this disc as well.
