9. Falls just short of perfect, but damn close.

Totally agree. A beautiful movie in every way. And I've never thought of it as a horror movie. To me it's always been a tragedy.

Horror movies can be tragic. As was the nature of other 70's horror classics Last House on the Left, The Crazies, and Don't Look Now. Also, Bava's Bay of Blood was really trying to squeeze out a few tears after
Spoiler:
Simon kills the blonde (it's Bava's fault for making her a one-note slut/whore/bitch whose name is hard to remember) and walks off thinking - if I'm not mistaken - how he screwed up the deal her boyfriend gave him to escape.
Same music that plays in the beginning with the mopey looking Countess.

And one other thing, which I pointed out in my review for this site: Carrie's mom didn't even KNOW about what happened at the prom! As in, she planned to kill Carrie when she returned home regardless! Carrie could have had an ok time with Tommy, Chris Hargensen's plan could have been foiled, and it was just a fun night for all. But Carrie's mom would still have trashed the house, and been hiding behind that door with the butcher knife. Consider that the next time you watch it...

9.5 an almost perfect adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
Really great horror movie.

I was just watching the special features on my DVD and one thing that I found refreshing was that everyone from the Cast to the Crew had not reservations at all about calling Carrie a Horror movie. So many times in cast and crew interviews from other classic Horror films they would always have to mention how they don't think it's a horror film and try to call it suspense, mystery, thriller, fantasy, Sci-fi, Drama anything to get them out of admitting they were in a horror film. So yeah Carrie rules and so does Specek and friends.
