I thought CHERRY FALLS was very good. I'd love to see the fabled uncut version - if it exists.

Checked out COLD PREY last night (most of it anyway). Execution-wise it was just another average teen horror flick, with all the tired slasher movie tricks all present and accounted for (especially annoying are the "someone passes by the camera" tricks - I counted at least 3). Not sure what I was expecting, maybe because the film was from Norway I was hoping the filmmakers would come up with something different, I don't know. OTOH, the setting wasn't the usual madman-in-the -woods routine so that was a plus. Not saying COLD PREY was a bad film, just ordinary.

^ I agree about Cold Prey. As a slasher fan, I did enjoy it, but it is pretty bland. And it's extremely overrated, as slasher fans seem to love it. I still haven't seen the sequels.
I already mentioned this one, but if you're looking for a really entertaining foreign language slasher that is much better than Cold Prey, I would highly recommend the German film Flashback. It's available on DVD in the US from LionsGate, and I'd imagine you can find it pretty cheap. Trailer |
