Jeff Lau's A CHINESE ODYSSEY 1&2 (1994) from Dragon Dynasty 10/9

Another Dragon Dynasty title that almost sneaked by... Jeff Lau's A CHINESE ODYSSEY 1&2 (1994)! Stephen Chow stars as the mischievous Monkey King in this slapstick skewering of the classic folk novel, 'Journey to the West'. Spanning centuries, the tale details Monkey's quest to right his past wrong against The Longevity Monk, along the way mingling with spider-women, bull demons, pig men and other fantastic beings. A giant hit in their native country, the pair may seem a little culturally alien at first, but when has that ever stopped us?

I trust the Weinsteins with a video release about as much as I'd trust them with a hot dog stand. I would definitely need to see some reviews first.

At this point I can't imagine they'd muck around with the titles -- I'm pretty sure they'll issue whatever master they get from Media Asia (or Fortune Star, or whoever).

It is sad that classics like this are only released when Bey Logan is not around anymore so one can only imagine the possibilities of said release under his blessing.

I saw these on Chinese laserdisc years ago and don't remember being very impressed. I'm a fan of Chow Sing Chi but unless these had some stellar reviews I couldn't imagine buying.
