After years of crappy PD releases, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians will arrive on Blu-ray thanks to Kino!:

Awesome and somewhat ironic that Santa Claus Conquers the Martians along with the Mexican Santa Claus will both be on Blu-ray before many more prominent titles.

I'll wait for the reviews but who the Hell am I kidding I bought VCI's Santa Claus even after all the lackluster reviews.

SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS was actually restored and played the Landmark Theater chain last Christmas (probably a digital projection). I would imagine this would be the basis for Kino's upcoming release.

Here's the trailer touting the event:

Extras announced!:

http://www.dvddrive-in.com/index.htm

"Kino Classics is proud to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of the 1964 holiday cult classic, SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS in a new HD transfer. Filled with kitschy set design, outrageous costumes and amiable acting, the film is nonstop fun and is worthy of its status as a holiday staple. This special edition comes packed with bonus features, including a collection of holiday-themed archival rarities (1936-68) including Jam Handy's animated "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Howdy Doody's Christmas" (1951), a charity PSA starring Abbott & Costello and Charles Laughton, and vintage theatrical "Season's Greetings" spots, and much more, as well as a trailer and stills gallery. The street date is October 30th, with a SRP of $24.95 for the Blu-ray and $19.95 for the DVD."

That's so sweet. I put this on my Christmas wish list but now I'm not so sure I can wait. I'm especially keen on seeing the Season's Greetings spots as I have never seen theatrical stingers like that before.

That review is very disappointing. 12 minutes missing? Heavy DNR? WTF? 4:3 I don't mind so much.

The DNR is the worst part. Who on earth is buying a Blu-ray for the kids? Only nuts who like old beat up films are buying this movie. So give us a faithful representation of it.

I'm looking at the pics, and it doesn't look that bad. Looks very good.

Supposedly, this title has been recalled by Kino Lorber due to a manufacturing error resulting in a truncated version of the film(?). I couldn't find a supporting article, but it appears the release date has been pushed back... a full year.

This title will be released on October 29, 2013.

Whaaaaaat? Well, I'm glad they were aware that the 12 minutes were missing and will be taking care of that but a full year?! Couldn't they release it in December of this year?

Wow that's fast. Original reports were that the print itself was a TV print and was edited as such. So they must have used another print to either fill in the blanks or just used that new one from start to finish.

Copies of the TV print actually shipped so it'll be interesting to see if someone can compare what they end up doing.
