Westworld on Blu-ray 3/5/2013!
Westworld is arriving on Blu-ray March 5th!:
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9983 "Warner Bros. has announced the Blu-ray release of writer/director Michael Crichton's Westworld, starring Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin, James Brolin, Alan Oppenheimer and Dick Van Patten. The 1973 sci-fi western saunters onto Blu-ray on March 5, 2013. Welcome to West World, Crichton's futuristic Disneyland for adults, a remote resort island where, for a hefty fee, you can indulge in your wildest fantasies in one of three convincing robot-run worlds: lusty Roman World, chivalrous Medieval World or lawless West World. It's in West World that things run amok, though, as businessmen John Blane (Brolin) and Peter Martin (Benjamin) face a murderous robot gunslinger (Brynner), among other dangers. Warner has yet to detail the disc's technical specifications and special features." It's safe to say the only extras will be the trailer. Maybe Shout!/MGM can follow this with a Blu-ray of Futureworld next.

I own the German Blu-ray of Futureworld. Decent quality. Can't hardly wait for Westworld though. Great movie.

The French release from Avanti! looks miles better than the US version. A few audio/sync problems though. Sold my French version when the US was announced. Think I'll buy it back the US transfer looks awful in comparison.

"If you toggle back and forth between the two Blu-ray releases (use the 1080 captures) you can see that either the Aventi transfer is vertically stretched or the new, single-layered, Warner is horizontally stretched. I lean to the latter - but aside from that the French release looks better to me. I don't know if it is more accurate (color-wise) but I prefer the appearance. They are both in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio but the Warner shows more information in the top and bottom but less on the right edge. The Aventi also appears sharper to me (I see no edge enhancement). opinions may differ but the captures are there to see." http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...ld_blu-ray.htm

The Warner disc looks really mediocre in comparision to the french. The warner disc is much lower on fine-details and looks a bit on the fuzzy side, plus the colors looks boosted . Just compare these shots:
Warner: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-r...blu-ray_07.jpg Avanti: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...blu-ray_07.jpg And these two: Warner: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-r...blu-ray_08.jpg Avanti: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-r...blu-ray_08.jpg Even the old MGM HDTV rip I have takes a royal crap on the Warner disc. IŽll go for the French one.
