Deep Rising (1998) / The Puppet Masters (1994) from Mill Creek 10/9

It looks like Mill Creek is issuing a cheap ($10) blu ray double bill of Stephen Sommers' sea monster mash DEEP RISING (1998) and Stuart Orme's alien parasite outing THE PUPPET MASTERS (1994) on October 9th.

I actually don't have either on DVD and I've only seen Deep Rising. I might have to pick that up. Thanks.

Had a double feature of these tonight. Rewatching Deep Rising, I still think it's a fun film with thin characters and an over reliance on CGI. When Rob Bottin designs such an awesome monster, you should let him build something! Here's an article I found about how the design of the creature came together: http://monsterlegacy.wordpress.com/2...-the-deep-sea/
The Puppet Masters I had never seen before and it left me pretty cold. It had obviously been tampered with by the studio who mashed up scenes from various drafts of the script even if the through-line of the plot didn't always fit from scene to scene and also insisted on a so happy you groan ending. This article from one of the writers tells the amazing story of how the movie's screenplay went through many different drafts, with teams of writers working on two different versions of the film at the same time: http://www.nitrosyncretic.com/rah/rossio.html

I remember Deep Rising at the picture show. That was a fun ride. I love how monster looks a lot like the 2010 Kraken with those "Sentinels" like extensions.
