TCM 2, I grew up with it and watched it almost immediately after discovering TCM for the first time which was around 86' or so! Of the other sequels, using the term loosely, I've always liked Leatherface and enjoyed both the 03' remake and its prequel. Next Generation was definitely the worst but it sounds like TCM 3D is giving it a run for it's money; I'll make my final opinion on that one when I get it from Netflix!

A little Leatherface piece I did back in the late 80's!

Voted for Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, because of Bill Moseley as Chop Top. Dog Will Hunt. Get that b***h Leatherface. 2nd would be 2013 Texas but without the 3D. The 3D just plain sucked big time. Not worth the extra price, and when it comes out on Blu-Ray, I'm purchasing the 2D version.

I actually like and own all the Texas movies on DVD, but for me, Texas 2 was the best. Just love Chop Tops introduction. You're my fav.

This is probably my least favourite horror franchise, although I do like them enough to own all of them. I'm not even a HUGE fan of the first movie, I like it but don't LOVE it like everybody else does. I find the whole franchise is just a lot of screaming, crying, and torturing (It's pretty much the first torture porn film).

That being said, I went with the remake with The Beginning not too far behind. They are probably the only ones similar in tone to the first film, the other ones are just ridiculous and cheesy.

None of the films following the 1974 classic were ever worthy to be called Texas Chainsaw Massacre in my opinion.

I don’t get why so many dismiss the humor in the original. I think the low-fi quality in which it was produced and filmed sort of masks most of the comedic aspect, but Tobe Hooper has several times proclaimed that the original was always intended to be a black comedy. Franklin is “slapsticky”….the Hitchhiker is “slapsticky”. After my initial viewing of the original TCM and being downright traumatized, I was able to watch it several years later and notice not only the satire and social relevance of the film, but also the comedic aspects as well. I still laugh every time Drayton (aka the Cook) arrives home and yells “Look at what your brother did to the door!” …or how excited the Hitchhiker gets when he’s told to get Grandpa.

And I don’t really think the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre can be accredited as the first “torture porn” film seeing as there is very little gore in the film. I mean, torture porn flicks are usually pretty straight forward, they usually don’t tend to delve into “frightening” its audience psychologically…it’s more of a what you see is what you get. The original TCM plays it the “less is more style” and lets your mind create the gruesome picture of what’s happening on film. I think torture porn’s roots really started with a combination of things…but I think most of its inspiration stems from Japanese gore films of the 1980-90s.

Hell yeah…its fuckin boner-inducing when Leatherface runs the blade up and down her leg.

I watch the Part 2 fairly often and I’ve never found any of the scenes to be dragging on or being overtly long for no purpose. I mean, when I first saw the sequel, I thought it paled in comparison to the original, but as the years progressed and the more times I watched it, I think the film stands perfectly on its own. There’s great performances all around and the dialogue is poignant on downright hysterical at times. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “Bright lights and big titties” used in a song…and you know you have something special when Les Claypool samples a quote from your film. Plus the set pieces are immaculate throughout…the family’s underground lair is so well dressed and so well put together it without a doubt acts as a character on its own. Great stuff…both Hooper films had great set pieces that worked effectively well.

I hate that moniker! It was created by someone who wouldn't know a horror film from Mary Poppins; Torture porn, as he so eloquently dubbed it, existed for decades before the films labeled as such and certainly existed for years prior to TCM's release! The genre(s) were exploitation and gore and they still are!!

Gotta go with TCM 2, just for the bridge chainsaw attack alone. Sparks, a rotten corpse dancing, sparks, and a yuppie getting his head sawed in half. Awesome. The whole movie pretty much speaks to my sense of humor though, so I watch it all the time...

Though I didn't vote for it, I must also add my voice to the (small) crowd that appreciates TCM4 (Next Generation). I remember it sucking, but when I bought it cheap and re-watched it, the damn thing was almost mesmerizing in its low-budget insanity. It's weird...and McConaughey kind of rules in it...

Easily Chainsaw 2...mesmerizing performances all around. Chop Top is one of horrors all time greatest characters. Plus I love how Hooper bridged the gap between the original and part 2. Bringing the Hitchhiker back as Nubbins was pure genius and subtle touches like Franklin's wheelchair being in the lair really make the sequel shine. TCM 74 was lightning in a bottle, why in the hell would anyone try to recapture the nightmarish quality of that film? Hooper did an incredible job of spinning the story around.......Larry

Torture porn is just an easy way of saying it. I'm not a huge fan of the phrase either although I find myself using it a lot for some odd reason. It may not have the gore but the last third of all of these films pretty much focus on a woman getting tortured at a dinner table. The rest of the film is just lots of running, screaming and crying. They are very loud films, that don't really let up, and the constant screaming and crying grates on your nerves after awhile. I get why people love the franchise and I understand why people consider the first film a masterpiece as it is very well made and frightening at times, they just aren't my favourites. The sequels are for the most part crap though, worth a watch but no where near good films. But like I said, I still own all of them, but I would watch many other horror films over them first. And yes, I know I am in the minority as this movie usually takes the top spot on most people's lists.

I vote to ban the phrase "Torture porn" from these forums. Just having to read it is more annoying than any amount of screaming or crying.

haha It's funny that it bothers some horror fans so much. I don't really see the big deal unless you don't like how the media has used it to put a bad connotation on horror films. I could care less what non horror film fans (Most of the popular reviewers) think of horror films, they are going to hate them whether they put them in a "Torture Porn" category or not.

I don't really care how the media portrays horror fans. I just cringe when horror fans adopt phrases that the media invents to portray horror fans. Especially when the phase is meant to portray horror fans as perverts sitting in their mothers basement masturbating to people getting tortured.

But horror fans know that's not true so who cares why the term was invented or what it means in the media world? Horror fans have adopted it because it's just an easy way to describe a film that has lots of/ or revolves around torture and gore. Maybe it's the word porn in the title that offends people, personally I couldn't care less. I am happy to admit that I watch soem flicks with soem pretty gnarly stuff in it. It makes talking about the film that much more fun. Chomp is right though in that TCM doesn't fall in this category as it is lacking the gore.
