I highly doubt that theater will ever open again. I'd still like to know how did a theater that closed in 1980. End up thrashed and decaying considering it closed in 1980? I figure when they closed the doors the theater was still in decent shape. Seats intact the lobby clean everything in it's place etc.

over the years in the research that i did and talking to people , the first pics to arrive on the net were 2 yrs ago that were taken in 2006, the back door was opened somehow and people have been using the lobby as some kinda of storage. I heard everything that bums and drug addicts were hanging out in there. From the looks of the 2006 pics, the window in the middle was broke but not boarded, same thing with the box office window, it was broke but now its boarded. The seats i heard were taken out sometime after 1988, Yes, alot of water damage ruined the place. and some people went in there and smashed up the toliets and bathrooms were destroyed..

I remember seeing WINDWALKER at the drive-in that year.

When I was a kid for some reason the way they underlined the word "horror" in the ads for THE BEAST WITHIN freaked me out. Like that meant it just had to be extra horrifying.

When I was growing up, there was only one "grindhouse", the infamous Cinema I and Cinema II in downtown Newburgh NY:

It was in a REALLY bad part of town (and even recently there was an article that Newburgh is the "murder capitol of New York"). Going there was out of the question, although in 80-81 I was starting to get an interest in horror so I'd start asking my dad to take me there. It wasn't happening. In 1981, it closed after vandals destroyed it. Probably a good thing in hindsight, as I'd probably start taking it upon myself to go there once I was able to drive, and I might not be alive today as a result.

It's actually pretty interesting, how a theater where Lucille Ball made her stage debut eventually became a horror/porn grindhouse, and then has been restored apparently.

wow, closed in 81. wonder what the last movies that shown there. Cool in the 1980 photo showing silent scream. yeah 70's and ealry 80's were bad in Ny.

The thing with old school theaters that always irks me is. You could never find anywhere to freaking park your car!!!!!!! There is a handful around me that used to be theaters. Most are used as concert halls and churches but parking still eludes you! I'd say old theaters only about 5 percent actually had a parking lot available. People used to be willing to park their cars and walk a few blocks. I truly believe lack or parking is what drove old single theaters out of business. Plus allot of old grind-house theaters were always in the ghetto.

Cinemart didn't even last 12 years from I have read. People back then didn't even give a shit what played there. It cost the owners allot of money to keep the doors open. Despite the fact that hardly nobody bothered to even go the movies there. Allot of back owed rent and poor attendance killed the Cinemart. Was Delaware a bad area back when that theater was open? What drove all the business away anybody know .....Bueller.....Ronnie?

Hard to say how that print would be.I've never seen what I would call an ''awful'' print at The Carolina though some certainly looked their age.THE BOOGENS didn't get a HUGE amount of play when it was out so if it is a vintage print and well preserved it might not be in bad shape.If a new master was struck for it recently then it may well have a brand new print struck for it,I've seen some of those at The Carolina too !

I haven't seen THE BOOGENS in 15 yrs,my last screening was from an old Video Search Of Miami VHS tape.Wouldn't mind checking it out again,especially on the big screen.

from someone that posts at cinema treasures, says he saw the FOG in 1980 spring when he was 15 at cinemart and said it was packed.. So i quess its hot and cold. certain movies would show there for months. like the movie heaven can wait showed there in summer of 78 for like 4 months... Would have loved to have seen the double billing for dawn of the dead and halloween in spring of 79.. wonder how well those two did..
