Philip Brophy's BODY MELT (1993) and more from Scorpion in April
Continuing their Ozploitation line, Scorpion Releasing give Philip Brophy's delightfully odd BODY MELT (1993) a reissue! When an experimental health supplement gets into a stale suburban community's dietary supply, its dreary inhabitants find themselves facing some serious side effects. Promoted in Fangoria at the time of its release, the film seems to have been largely forgotten since -- strange, since the '90s were so starved for something worthwhile that an Aussie slandering of the Me Generation bolstered by supremely surrealistic splatter effects courtesy of Down Under gore guru Bob McCarron (DEAD/ALIVE, ESCAPE 2000) should've been embraced with open arms. Maybe with this release it'll finally find its audience.

Also coming in April from Scorpion Releasing:
Jim Clark's RENTADICK (1972), a British detective spoof whose original script was penned by Monty Python's John Cleese and Graham Chapman, though they legally had their names removed claiming the finished product was not of their doing. It also features ROCKY HORROR's Patricia Quinn in a small role. DVD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20 An '80s Aussie double-bill with Mario Andreacchio's THE DREAMING (1988) & Michael Pearce's INITIATION (1987). THE DREAMING finds an archaeologist plagued by visions of an aboriginal slaughter after entering a cursed tomb. INITIATION is a coming-of-age tale where a kid has to survive the Outback alone after his dad's plane crashes during an illegal pot run. Seriously. I've never seen either of 'em. I'm Australian and I haven't even heard of them, let alone seen them! This thing Scorpion has with Aussie films is rather strange, IMO. Not even especially good films, more like second tier films most locals probably haven't even heard of. That said, Alison's Birthday would be nice. It's certainly the creepiest local horror film I've ever seen. I have a TV screening on DVD somewhere. First and only time I've ever seen it. |

I skipped over Body Melt when it first appeared on VHS but went out and got it after it appeared on a documentary similar to "Not Quite Hollywood".
A starter Oz drive in list is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Qui..._Ozploitation!
