I'm not really familiar with this movie, is it a "so bad it's good" flick?

In my opinion it is one of the best "so bad it's good" SOV films. It's absolutely bat shit in the best way possible. The landlord sleeps around with his tenants! A video "glob" surrounds the house! A crazy ex-Vietnam gardener might be trimming the hedges too close! A pool party gets out of hand! And this is only the stuff that makes sense!

Do we get a shorter cut as well or just the 2 hour plus cut? Still, I missed out on Code Red's release and am curious to see this.

I give you kudos for getting through it. I tried multiple times but I think the farthest I ever got was about 40 minutes before nodding off due to boredom. The video is slow enough as it is, I can't even imagine how sluggish the pacing could be in a 2 hours director's cut.

Oh dear lord...SOLD!
I never got around to purchasing this last time--it's definitely one I wouldn't mind having in my collection.

Tried it drunk, sober, with the commentary, without...
But to be fair Im not a big fan of the So Bad Its Good genre. The only one I can say I truely enjoyed was Pieces.

Every year we hold a 'so bad, it's good' Halloween night film party, about three years ago I decided to screen the Code Red dvd of Boardinghouse without having seen it beforehand. It was a huge mistake and a brutal mood killer, I actually found myself apologizing to my guests, based on the trailer I always thought this would be at the very least interesting.
I found it plodding and tedious, films like One Eyed Monster, Thankskilling and Mausoleum went over much better. I cannot imagine a two hours plus cut of this, no offense to anyone here who actually likes it. |

BHAHAHAHAAHAhahaha...man, the look on those people's faces had to have been priceless.
That jolt from having unbridled enthusiasm turn into a form of self deprevation had to be quite jarring. BoardingHouse is a little more than your run of the mill "so bad its good film". BoardingHouse requires a whole different mindset towards the way in which one preceives a "film"...alcohol and other mind altering substances help. Ha!..maybe even a labotomy? I think Stephen Thrower best described BoardingHouse in his book NIGHTMARE USA, when he called the film "cinema anti-matter". Ha! Last edited by Chomp; 03-04-2013 at 04:10 AM. |

I actually saw BoardingHouse in a theater upon release. It was on a double bill with the movie I paid to see (forget which one). It didn't look like it was shot on video when I saw it theatrically but years later I rented it and it looked like someone's backyard home video. Awful. Has it been confirmed that the longer cut comes out to 2+ hours? It's probably newly-shot stuff he added la Night of the Living Dead 30th Anniversary. If this is the case I hope he was able to find a working circa 1982 VHS camcorder to match the original footage :-)
