Robin Hardy's THE FANTASIST (1986) from Scorpion Releasing 11/20

An '80s slasher I've never seen by the director of THE WICKER MAN (original flavor), Scorpion Releasing give Robin Hardy's THE FANTASIST (1986) its domestic digital debut. Virginal schoolteacher Patricia moves from the Irish sticks to the big city of Dublin, only to immediately find herself on the receiving end of oddly fetishistic phone calls. Is it a simple prank, or is she the next target of a roaming serial killer who's been slicing lasses nightly? I accidentally already ruined the ending while trying to find a plot description. Bastards!

Gee, I hope that picture isn't of Patricia or else the ending is ruined for all of us now.

I'm currently reading Robin Hardy's Cowboys for Christ. I guess you could call it a pseudo follow up to The Wicker Man, but not really. It's more like a new story based on the same original outline. Haven't seen The Wicker Tree yet which is based on this book, but the book is pretty damned horrible.

Watched this for the first time yesterday. What a strange movie. It's like a feel-good drama with very minor slasher elements. In fact, I wouldn't even label The Fantasist a slasher - but maybe those brief slasher moments are the best thing about the movie. I'm still undecided.
