Anyone have the UK 88 Films version:

I have mine on the way from Amazon UK and was wondering if anyone else had this version and could comment on the quality, extras, etc.

I received mine yesterday from Amazon UK. The transfer looks really great. The audio is either lossless DTS-HD Master 5.1 or the original PCM uncompressed 2.0 and sounds equally superb.

The 8-page booklet is pretty neat too, with a few behind-the-scenes photos and some interesting tidbits. Gordon talking about asking a priest to ask the Pope to bless the film was fun to read about! The pope sent him back a bottle of Polish vodka!

Cool! I had no idea it came with a booklet. I thought the days of companies adding those little extra touches were long gone. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to check it out when I get it.

Amazon has a US blu-ray release scheduled for August 20th (full moon direct seems to already have it in stock) - any word yet on how the US blu will compare to the UK blu?

Someone posted a comparison shot in the Full Moon thread. 88 Films is a definite winner with its PQ.

I'm confused about this release. It's listed on Film Aficionado as having been released on June 30th and I got it from amazon.ca in June... it's still listed. I was at HMV a week ago and they had copies in their 2/$10 rack. Why is it being released in the US so much later?

I just bought one 2 days ago from HMV as well. For $10, I am more than happy with it as long as it is uncut which seems to be the case.

Why do 88 Film's Blu's look better than the Region 1 Full Moon versions? At least that's the impression I get from reviews. Are they using different masters? Another useless DVD I can throw in the trash for what is an impressive upgrade.

88 Films simply puts more care into the releases. Better encodes, better audio, better packaging and disc manufacturing. And in the case of Castle Freak they've done some further restoration to the print FM handed them.

Watched the film for the first time last night on the 88 Films Blu-ray. Really enjoyed it. One thing that stuck out to me is that it looks like it was made in the 70s. It has none of the glossy look that the majority of 90s horror shared. The atmosphere, the location, the cinematography, it was all great. Probably a high water mark for DTV films. If it wasn't for the sexual violence I see no reason why this couldn't be in theaters.
