Especially as the same damn song was recently overplayed in Microsoft's ad campaign. Its one thing to play inappropriate "trendy-catchy" music for a trailer theme. Its another to use that music after its already stuck in peoples' skulls from some other product association.

James Hong is like Michael Ironside, no matter how bad the film may be, any scene he is in is probably worth watching. My bet is Hong will be the best, possibly only redeeming, part of that movie.

It's being projected as a huge box-office bomb.

I actually think this looks like a very fun popcorn flick. I'd even go so far as to say this looks like a real sequel to MIB.

And it did indeed: 'R.I.P.D.' Box Office Disappoints

I've not gotten a single laugh out of any of the previews I've seen, I'm getting annoyed by Bridges who is pretty much just doing Rooster Cogburn again, and that Macklemore song is the most ill-fitting music they could've possibly found for the TV spots for this thing. It's like "Whoomp! The Addams Family" bad.

Maybe I'm a stupid asshole and this will be really good and tear up the box office, but I still think it looks really, really bad. Anyone here looking forward to this?

Edit: Crap, I had written R.I.P.D in the thread title, not sure how R.i.p.d. happened.

Started a thread on this already in April. Maybe Paff can merge the 2.

Threads now merged. Which means this thread has gotten more attention than the movie itself did at the box office. Hey-o!

Sweet, now that the threads have merged the title is in all capital letters. That was really bugging me that my thread said R.i.p.d.

I expected this not to do well, but holy cow, this thing tanked hard. Even though I said I thought it would suck I kinda feel bad about how bad it did.

Saw the film and thought it was pretty bad. It definitely reminded me of Men In Black while watching it but Reynolds and Bridges just didn't seem right. Should have seen Red 2 instead.

Was it worse than the MNB series or on par with them?

Well, it didn't have Will Smith in it, so it couldn't have been "that" bad.

Christ on a fucking pogo stick, they just recycled this fucking song yet again for the trailer for the upcoming film Jobs.

Has some marketing suit just falling asleep behind the ad campaign wheel, or is there some theater attendee Pavlovian response to that insipid tune that I'm somehow immune to? Try as I might I can't envision what sequence of mass brain farting must be occurring to think its a great idea to use the same "cool for this week" tune for *3* different advertising campaigns in as few months.

Either that, or someone acquired the usage rights to the tune dirt cheap.

Every trailer should use the following (starting at 1:43):

I finally saw this on cable the other night. Sort of disappointed. Sure Jeff Bridges was kinda fun to watch, but the whole story was lame. It's was like they started making the movie and realized it was too much like MIB, and just changed things on the fly. The concept was good, but the plot just wasn't that all interesting to me. It might appeal to some if they never saw MIB, and might wind up one of those cult type movies. I guess it's worth a look on cable, but I would avoid buying the Blu-ray without seeing it first. Hell, if your a Jeff Bridges fan, then give it a go. The man at least gave it his all for this film, he looked like he was having fun. As far Ryan Reynolds, he was just there (like just getting a paycheck), it really could have been anybody in that role. Maybe it was Jeff's character that took every scene over, but that's how I felt.
