Any of you recall the Bill Murray film "Scrooged?" There's a scene that comes to mind while he is trying to talk to Karen Allen, but the hammering and construction on the set is making it difficult. He finally gets so aggravated, that he screams "Will you please, for the love of god, stop the goddamn hammering!" That's kind of how I feel every month when each announcement is made that excludes "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou." End of rant.

Preorders now up for the October titles.

THE UNINVITED:
DVD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20
Blu: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20

EYES WITHOUT A FACE
Blu: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20

I MARRIED A WITCH
DVD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20
Blu: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20

I've never seen THE UNINVITED or I MARRIED A WITCH, so I'm really looking forward to them. EYES WITHOUT A FACE is great, too, and I'm excited about the HD upgrade. (I'll probably grab the Cassavetes box and Antonioni's LA NOTTE as well -- they're breaking my wallet!)

Also, here's Blu-Ray.com on Frankenheimer's SECONDS, a movie I absolutely love:

Barnes & Noble has The Devil's Backbone out a week early online and supposedly in store too so that it can be part of their current 50% off sale.

This was pushed back a week to 7/23 but I don't think it was well publicised

Yeah, it's out a week early at their website and in stores.

My store got one copy of the Blu-ray in. They're holding it for me until I can get over there later..

HO-LY-SHIT! Coming November 26th:

New digital restorations of all twenty-five films, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks on the Blu-rays
The Blind Swordsman, a 1978 documentary about Zatoichi portrayer and filmmaker Shintaro Katsu, along with a new interview with its director, John Nathan
New interview with Asian-film critic Tony Rayns
Trailers for all twenty-five films
New English subtitle translations
PLUS: A book featuring an essay by critic Geoffrey O’Brien; synopses of the films by critic, novelist, and musician Chris D.; “The Tale of Zatoichi,” the original short story by Kan Shimozawa; and twenty-five new illustrations inspired by the films, by twenty-five different artists.

http://www.criterion.com/boxsets/101...lind-swordsman

I will be saving up for that set!

good goddamn! that's a real whopper! i've only seen the "Beat" Takeshi film from 2003, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. definitely pretty cool for fans of these films. $180 is a pretty decent price, too, for 25 (!) films, especially when you consider Criterion's usual pricing.

I'm also intrigued to see that they're now doing dual format releases...

$180 for that? Wow. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of of Japanese films. Once again I express my disappointed with the fact that The Life Aquatic still hasn't been released.

I could see them coming out sometime during the winter months, seeing as The Brood takes place during the Canadian winter, and Scanners was definitely shot late fall/early winter.
