I've actually seen every movie on this list with the exception of Carnival of Souls. A toss up for me between Sleepaway Camp, Saw, and The Sixth Sense.

NOTLD '68 and Sleepaway Camp are the two most shocking endings for me (on the list). It was a hard decision but ended up voting for Sleepaway Camp. Not only was that ending shocking, it was down right disturbing as well.

I went with Se7en because it was the one that affected me most. I was a relative virgin to that kind of psychologically bent film when I watched it. All of the kills leading up to it are revolting in their own ways and the (second) last one was no different. I couldn't believe a film could be so heartless. After watching it I felt like I had ascended (descended?) to some greater level of horror fan.

Funny, I was trying to do a Brad Pitt impersonation this past weekend and the quote I chose was, "No Jon, we would have caught you eventually."

What makes Wicker Man's ending so great is that it actually IMPROVES subsequent viewings of the film (compared to a lot of "shock endings" which only work once...including the one I voted for!). A lot of people complain that The Wicker Man has "too much singing and dancing", or that "it's not horror, it's a musical" (by the way, it's definitely horror, especially what happens to that cask of ale later in the film...but I digress).

Those complaints may be true the first time you see it, but when you watch it again, you'll see that every action by the islanders is meant to
Spoiler:
lure Sgt. Howie to the Wicker Man
, something I think is given away too much in the so-called "director's cut". It's why I prefer the theatrical cut.

Had to go with Night of the Living Dead.

Spoiler:
The death of the main protagonist was so sudden especially after all he had been through the previous night. Plus the allusions to racism and the documentary-like footage put it over the top as far as the shock factor goes.

Those still images at the end are really unsettling

Sorry you guys, Sleepaway Camp is the only answer. Nice to see it's winning in a landslide, since it is the only answer and all.

Went with NOTLD also. Can't imagine what it was like for audiences back then.
