Exactly. They can still do a good quality release, but they are far and few between.

And they just sit on a lot of stuff, like Phantasm. I wish the rights to that one would just revert to another studio... like Shout Factory!

Even Evil Dead though was missing several extras. It does look and sound great though, I will give you that!

As far as I can recall, the most disappointing BD release for me in the last 2 years was Optimum's release of The Devil Rides Out. Quatermass and the Pit was the first BD I got from them and my first thought after seeing how awesome it looked was "I really hope these guys release The Devil Rides out soon!". Some time later, this title got announced and then shortly after (or maybe it was in the initial announcement, I don't remember...) they announce that they have tampered with one of the scenes and will not include an option to watch the movie with the original footage.

Kino's Black Sabbath release with the algae-like coating over what would have been a beautiful transfer. I was almost debating getting it again anyway but after re-looking at some screen caps last night - I just couldn't do it.

Forgot about this BD...not only is the grain distracting in some scenes, but the audio goes out of sync! The DVD is fine however.

If it was missing the convention reunion interviews, I wouldn't shed a tear.

(In regards to BLACK CHRISTMAS):

Another reason to wait for reviews before selling off those OOP DVDs and assuming the Blu will be awesome.

I have that disc, and yes the caps look bad.
However the movie looks fine, and nothing seems weird.
My guess is it only looks green in comparison to the Arrow one.

It's also missing these two commentaries:

Audio Commentary with director/writer Sam Raimi and producer Robert Tapert
Audio Commentary with actor Bruce Campbell

The one on the disc is a new one involving all three participants.

As well, I believe it is also missing these extras:

Behind The Scenes Footage & Outtakes (18 mins) *This footage was pretty much incorporated into the longer Treasure from the Cutting Room Floor doc. I believe
2001 Halloween Night screening of Evil Dead (7mins)
Bruce Campbell's "Fanalysis" documentary (26mins)
"Discovering Evil Dead" featurette (13mins)
Interview clip featuring high school drama teacher Jim Moll (3:59)

I could be wrong but I believe the Blu still looks better than the DVD. I held onto the Critical Mass DVD from 2002 anyway as it has a bunch of exclusive extras.

There are pieces missing.

I know.

I sat through the entire 1-hour or so of the Treasures on the Cutting Room Floor reel and then rewatched the 18 minute reel and found at least a couple bits were missing.

I'll probably do this again this year. I'm very meticulous about this kind of thing. In fact, I wish like frick I knew how to transfer VHS to DVD- I would have uploaded the missing Nightmare on Elm Street interview clips from the 1999 boxset onto YouTube some time ago. I'm the only person I know who actually sat down and made notes of what was on the VHS's that wasn't on the DVD's.

I kept my 2002 CM disc as well (my 2000 CM disc was sold years ago) even though the prices it was going for were around $30-$40.

I never had the 2000 edition but - yeah - why would anyone toss the old disc?
