But seriously, the Code Red release looks and sounds better than I had ever dared to imagine this movie could, and I have no interest in another DVD release. I would probably upgrade if it came out on blu, as I actually enjoy the atmosphere of this one.
Agreed, it'll be interesting to see what this version has to offer, but a Blu is the most likely the way I'd upgrade at this point. This movie rocks. It's hypnotic!

LOVE the quote they used on the back of Trick Or Treats:

"Halloween, but with a Meat Loaf-looking dude in drag." - Matt Mulcahey, efilmcritic

Yeah that was some funny shit!

Got mine yesterday also. Trick or Treats has a really nice transfer...one of the best I've seen from Code Red in a while.

Just received Voices From Beyond and Just Before Dawn. Paid 17 bucks for P&H to Australia. Came in a small bag with bubble wrap. The envelope said 12.75 for postage cost. That leaves, if my maths is correct, about 4.25 for the envelope and handling costs. They arrived intact and the bubble wrap layer helps, but it would have still been nice to see a thin layer of cardboard added either side and in between the 2 movies for extra protection.

Anyways, happy they are here and will watch tonight.

I watched the Code Red Blu-ray of Just Before Dawn last night, and it's an obvious improvement over the old Shriek Show DVD - there are some issues, such as the graveyard photo shoot, which looks like the camera lens was smeared with Vaseline, but I suspect that it was filmed that way. The nigh time scenes are a revelation - you can actually see what's going on now. That said, there is an improvement in detail throughout - I never noticed the contour of Chris Lemmon's manhood in his too tight jeans before.

Just Before Dawn is probably my least favourite of the vintage Lieberman horrors. It is beautifully shot, but the underlying music is too sparsely used, which means that the best scenes don't have quite the impact they could have had. That said, I still like, and I'm glad Bill decided to put it out on blu.

I tried reading the description on the back of Trick Or Treats, but it gave me a headache. Ouch, grammar! Longest sentence ever. And "Director by..."?

Parts of Trick or Treat felt like they had run out of money and quickly shot some of the scenes without much effort. The part where the killer got on the bus, for instance, seemed like they were going for comedy but misfired badly with dialogue out of sync. The rest of the film felt a little like a TV movie. Still glad to add it to my collection.

This has to be one of the stranger analogies ever crammed into a Blu-ray review:

"At a certain point, a Blu-ray is like an anus: No level of astroglide is going to make stuffing too much up there end in anything but disappointment."
