It was? Really? Then why the fuck are you jumping all over my ass for saying that that is what he evolved into in the public eye due to the sequels, tv shows and comics? Baggio simply backed up what I had already said in that statement. The only part he disagrees with me over is the first movie itself.

I still contend that he was a super hero from the getgo, being a by the books origin story and all.

Almost R is a far cry from almost X / NC-17, like the original film.

I never really thought The Dark Knight got away with all that much when it got a PG-13, either.

The director is an idiot.

The Dark Knight was a violent PG-13 but it didn't push the limits of the rating at all.

another pointless remake, more reasons to stay away from this shit, hope it's a flop, it deserves to be, and even if they release an unrated version on BD who cares, if they were aiming for a PG13 there aint gonna be anything that extreme in it, this is getting a wide birth from me, doubt I would watch it when it shows up free on cable.

Let´s start calling others names based on their opinion.

I´ve got someone close working on the movie and this does push the violence to the extreme.
However, as a PG-13, I don´t know how much of it will be on the cutting room floor.

And it was a studio call, not a director related one.

Scored a solid B at the AV Club:

Quote:
In the satire department, RoboCop 2.0 is pointed but rarely funny: It leans heavily on Samuel L. Jackson, popping in to bloviate as a Fox News-style pundit. The digital mayhem, meanwhile, is capably staged, but lacks the visceral punch of the old Verhoeven ultraviolence. (Like Jay Baruchel’s nattering OmniCorp marketing wiz, the suits at Sony are after mass appeal; they’ve reprogrammed a gory genre classic into a PG-13 crowd-pleaser.)

But this RoboCop earns its stripes, mostly for the seriousness with which it treats its Frankenstein story. Kinnaman, who’s afforded a wider range of feeling and more fluctuating inflection than Weller was, locates the tragedy of his character’s predicament. What he and Padilha understand is that RoboCop is both cool and—on a deeper, more philosophical level—pretty terrifying. The movie’s affecting highlight arrives early, when Murphy’s conflicted doctor (Gary Oldman, sterling as always) shows his lab experiment what he really looks like under all the moving parts. For a few minutes, the full horror of this refurbished premise is brought to the forefront. To paraphrase one of the original’s most famous lines—repurposed here, as a wink to the faithful—we’d buy more of that for a dollar.

One of the many scathing reviews I've been reading. Seems this remake doesn't even succeed at being a brainless action flick.

I actually watched this last week and was expecting to hate it but surprisingly I though it was decent. It manages to be funny a few times and mixes in some things from the original like the theme music which I wasn't expecting. I think it does push the boundaries for pg-13 with one scene in particular in mind.
I do miss the gore though. While I didn't mind this new film I do think it would have been even better had it embraced the brutal nature of the original. Omnicorp could have been a little more evil too but oh well. For a remake it's not too bad.
