Thinking about blind-buying this. Can anyone recommend?

I love movies like I Drink Your Blood, etc, but I don't like movies that are gross just to be gross. For instance, I'm not the biggest H.G. Lewis fan, the rare exception being Two Thousand Maniacs.

I hear this one's pretty nasty, but if there's entertainment value in there, I'll be able to appreciate it.

Ugh. One of the biggest pieces of shit I wasted money blind buying off ebay (y'know, in the days before download). But it's probably worth a small fortune now because of the label it's on.

Female horror fans and torture films just don't mix.

Not unless you call women being whipped and chained as entertainment. I can tolerate and even enjoy torture porn, to an extent, but there's not much to recommend about this film. It's incredibly ugly to boot, cinematically speaking, so it's not even a filmic experience you can enjoy, in that sense. (I hated I Spit... but at least the surrounds were pretty.) Imagine a five minute porn loop extended to 90 minutes. Only with less story!

Two scenes stick in my head when I think of this film...The first one is when they have the chic clenching with her mouth onto a rope attached to a guillotine while hitting her is the ass with a broom... and the second one is when they show a schlong on a hero sandwich at the end.

I finally received the new Troma blu, dig the green case! Never saw the 88 films release, loving the new high-def transfer, prob the same as was used on that one. Troma gives a selection to play the film with (Sardu: master of the screaming virgins) or without (Bloodsucking Freaks) the newly discovered footage. I found it interesting as it completes a scene, and has never been discussed before. A deep dark secret, even from long time fans it seems. And Lloyd Kaufman got it mixed up, it's Sardu giving, not receiving. Bizarre moment that fits better than I had imagined...image quality is a bit lesser during this moment, but the audio is there. In a new interview, Eli tells his story of the old dvd's production tale, his inclusion in it, conversation with Joel M. Reed the night before the commentary track was recorded, etc. It's a great release from Troma, really!!

No, the DVD is full-frame, dark and looks like your viewing it through comb teeth. Movie & trailer only on the DVD. But it does have the bloodsucking freaks title card, which is missing from either selection you decide to view on the blu-ray. I far prefer the original Sardu... title though.

Cool, would rather give my money to Troma anyway.

Is there reversible cover art? I prefer the old DVD's art...

No, not a reversible cover insert. I like the vintage never before seen theatrical art cover. It goes well with the never before seen scene and the never been seen before title. I just wish Joel Reed (an avid ebayer) provided some never before seen or heard supplements. There's no still gallery either. Regardless, it's a treasure of a blu-ray.

I've been on a Grindhouse bender, and I'm kind of fascinated by this title. Obviously, I don't think that because a movie contains scenes of a misogynist nature, the movie has a misogynist message. That said, I like the sleazy vibe that these Grindhouse movies tend to have. I'd rather not list and have to defend every title I enjoy, but for fans of this one, what do you like about it, and what would you compare it to?

I watched my blu and the movie held up pretty well for me. It's been over 20 years since I last watched it and I was still entertained. The quality was good and I'm glad I upgraded.

"Oh, how delightful. After dinner music"
I like the style and delivery of bloodsucking freaks. It's a class act tongue-in-cheek approach to it's raunchy subject matter. Great sets, great lines, great characters, great props and great music. It also simply makes sense and entertains. Which was nice to see back in the day right after watching "the jar" and "werewolves on wheels" on vhs. Nostalgia for the era is def a good thing to have in mind.

Glad I gave this one a chance. Part of me was attracted by how seedy it was, and part of me was apprehensive because some critics (such as John Kenneth Muir, whose work I generally enjoy) present the movie as an invitation for the audience to feel sadistic pleasure as women are demeaned. I can't help but wonder if, say, aforementioned Muir needed one movie to morally lambast in his otherwise fine book, Horror Films of the 1970's.

For me, it is a deeply satirical movie with a "what passes for entertainment" message, but also one which uses the very methods it criticises. Obviously, despite its intellectual flirtations, it's an exploitation movie, one that attempts to entertain through shock. And I was entertained.

Seamus O'Brien an Luis De Jesus are a wonderfully wacky duo. O'Brien has real presence and elegance, while De Jesus is a visually memorable figure (though a rather poor actor). De Jesus is fun to watch, because his cheerful grin, butterball nose, and big, curly mop all make him look rather adorable - quite at odds with the monster he portrays.

At times amusing (we're expected to believe that human slaves are shipped via postal service worldwide - in cardboard boxes!), and at times unsettling (the image of a ballet dancer with her feet cut off dragging herself along the floor), Bloodsucking Freaks is not easy to recommend, but for grindhouse fans, it's obligatory viewing.

I watched the blu-ray last night, and can't say I was especially into it. I liked some of the more tongue-in-cheek bits, like the scenes with the critic they kidnap, but the non-stop torture scenes definitely overshadowed that a bit too much. The plot was a bit overshadowed by it too, as it failed to hold my interest. Although I did get a few chuckles out of it, specifically the shot where the naked girl bursts out of the cardboard box and Ralphus clubs her over the head.

The picture quality looked a bit rough too, lots of scratches and white specs throughout.

I thought the Eli Roth interview was more interesting than the film itself. It's not just him gushing about how much he loves the film, he talks about his encounters with various members of the cast and crew and the stories they have told him. Apparently the guy who played the cop became an executive at Paramount.

It was actually the other way around. It was two naked girls holding Sardu down as he fellates Ralphus. The scene is maybe 30 seconds, and it's right near the beginning of the movie.
