For those of you wondering (and don't have a Blu-ray player yet), I asked Full Moon Features on Facebook if DVD versions of the recent remastered editions are coming and they said "It's in the works!".

I'm looking forward to watching Castle Freak again. I remember being taken aback by how serious this film was played. I was expecting something with a little comedy seeing as Stuart Gordon was behind this. Instead it was quite disturbing.

Looking forward to the bonus film on the 88Films disc as well.

picked up the Blu-ray collection of the subspecies 1,2,3 part 2,3 look amazing and have new audio commentary part 1 I think is the 2011 release remade so it wont have laser rot!!

2,3 I believe is the 88 films overseas transfers!! kinda weird subspecies IV and vampire journals weren't done but I don't think there is many fans of those 2 films

Full Moon Pictures is releasing Tourist Trap on dvd on June 18th. The older dvd is now out-of-print but if you go on the Full Moon Pictures website the dvd is there already. But on amazon.com it says that it's not going to be released until the 18th of June.

Yeah, but those were probably shot on video. Which brings me to this question; is it possible for Full Moon or 88 Films to restore shot-on-video films?

Define restore? You can only do so much with video. If Full Moon uses the actual video masters from the 90's and early 00's, they shouldn't have to do much, if anything, as far as restoration.

BBC has done wonders with restoring Doctor Who video episodes from the 70's/80's for example, but if you're asking if SOV movies can be restored to actual 1080p resolution or higher, no. Sure they could simply upconvert them and slap them on a Blu-ray, but they're not going to look great. Some German Blu-rays (Ninja III: The Domination) have even used upconverted VHS transfers.

The original DVD releases (in 1997) of Vampire Journals and Subspecies 4 actually looked somewhat better than the transfers that were used in the much later DVD boxset. They were better encoded for one thing, even though the box set came 9 years later.

It's possible to go back to first generation tapes, de-interlace and upconvert the video with industrial grade tools to produce something better then the average household equipment. Even then it'd have to be something you'd truly enjoy before you could really justify the extra expense for a marginal upgrade (compared to what your Blu-ray player could do as an upconverter).

Since many are shrugging off these HD masters from film as being barely an upgrade over their SD counterparts I wouldn't think it'd be worth the effort.

I've heard a lot of good things about Tourist Trap but after finally seeing it I was let down. It starts off very good but didn't really keep my interest after about half an hour. I would have preferred it had they kept things on the supernatural side.

This as well as Dollman are not going in my bluray collection, or dvd for that matter
