Well, even if Enya isn't the first artist I'd pop in the stereo to get my juices flowing, I do think that particular song creates a nice, moody atmosphere for the close of the movie. It almost lends a bit of class.

I expected to enjoy revisiting it, and I did - for what it was. The tone (not the atmosphere) is similar to that of Maximum Overdrive - but that movie always grated on my nerves. Sleepwalkers, on the other hand, has some endearing young principles in Mädchen Amick and Brian Krause. And Alice Krige is absolutely wonderful - she can be perfectly gracious and charming, and still leave no doubt that she is dangerous. I love how she takes the time to courteously compliment Mrs. Robertson on her home, even while attacking the poor woman.

The sleepwalkers themselves have a large array of powers - shapeshifting, superhuman strength and resilience, illusion/invisibility, telekinesis, and soul sucking - and the movie does have some cool special effects. We get chewed off fingers and other red stuff, a blue Trans-am temporarily turning into a red mustang, exploding cars, and some decent early morphing. The sleepwalkers are most interesting in their human or mostly human forms, though, partly because of the talents of Krige and Krause, and partly because the creature suits are a bit rubbery-looking.

Now, the tone is rather comic book, and the more gruesome proceedings are softened a bit by cheesy one-liners ("I don't think you're entering into the spirit of this. Why don't just think of yourself as lunch?" a monster suggests to a would-be victim). But, as a fun, scary movie, it does the trick for me.
