How well was Final Exam recieved in theaters??

I wonder how many seen it on the big screen, everyone seems to love the characther of radish, personally, never cared for him. Was he a big deal when this was seen in theaters? or did he develope a cult following over the years? I know for a fact this movie bombed at the box office. So i quess it got big on VHS over the years, Does anyone recall when it came on cable. if so, what stations showed it? i bet the movie channel played it. They played alot of horror movies.

I'm surprised this even played in theaters. This is some bargain bin shit right here. And since when did Final Exam acquire a cult following, or get big?

like any other "slasher of the week" where I lived, nice ad in the papers, TV spots in the evenings, usually on the local news, and gone in a week, only to be replaced b y another slasher.

thats how it was back in those days.

I watched a great many horror films during this time period but somehow this title slipped by. I still haven't seen it to this day although I did purchase the Scorpion release. At the time I had to sneak into unrated and R rated titles but I got away with seeing Maniac, Howling, American Werewolf, The Thing and many others.

DAG. seeing maniac on the big screen must have been a big deal. I didn't see maniac till 2001 when it was put on anchor bay DVD. seen stills and clips on tom savini's scream greats, but man was that not like watching a snuff film. so disturbing.. even seeing it that many yrs later.

Yeah...I think BCI's DVD really put it on the map as well...then a few months later Bleeding Skull did that appreciation essay on Final Exam, and it was all the rage. Then BCI went belly up and people started putting up big bucks for the VHS and OOP DVD.

Its a fun flick. Its not my favorite slasher, but its up there.

I always hated Radish...thought he was a pussy. Wildman was more my style. HA!

I saw Maniac in March of 1981 on a double bill with Meat Cleaver Massacre. At the time I was 14 and I certainly remember the effects; specifically the scalping scene. I also had a thing for Caroline Munro so it was a great combination.

makes me wanna see Final Exam on a big screen. Since i missed most if not all early 80's horror films on the big screen due to being only like 9 or 10 at the time. I would rather see something like humongous or final exam or Halloween II on the big screen than anything out today....
