Evil Dead! The Musical

One of my friends informed me of this little shin dig in Chicago, a campy musical based on the Sam Raimi horror film The Evil Dead, in which evil forces are released in the forest.

Here's a link

I'm going to try and work my way there, as I'm always driving for a couple of hours to see some obsure movie showing at a theater, all I need is a date.

There's also a showing of the new Gamera film which ends soon: http://www.metromix.com/top/1,1419,M...103772,00.html

That sounds pretty damn cool.I wish they would come to Detroit and perform that.Chicago is only 5 hours away so maybe I will try to talk to the wife into going for a spontaneous weekend mini-vacation.

Odd as this sounds, it would be pretty cool to attend and see how they pull it off. I usually hate musicals, but this I could make an exception for.

Yeah, me to. Fucking unrealistic shit, unless they are taking the piss out of musicals ala South Park - Bigger Longer Uncut (but even some of the songs in that movie started grating)

Why not simply stage Evil Dead? Who needs songs?!?!?!?!? Everything horror related is not cool. This is certainly NOT cool either.

There is something strangely captivating about this idea. I'd probably go see it, just for the hell of it.

Whatever happened to the Hellraiser off-Broadway play?

Anyway, there was going to be a Lovecraftian musical back in the seventies:

From www.thelurker.com

In 1979 the Other Gods Theatre, a troupe of Los Angeles thespians, began production of a theatrical event like none ever before attempted. Using the score of a classic American musical, they adapted the collected works of H.P. Lovecraft into an all-dancing, all-singing theatre extravaganza: A Shoggoth on the Roof.

Went and saw it last night, and it's pretty damn good. I didn't expect it to be very funny, but it turned out to be side splitting. There's a lot of references to other movies in it, and the acting was pretty good as well.

The songs were petty funny, and were mostly just basic rock, accept for one Disney parody which was really funny. If you're in the area, you should check it out. I'm thinking about going again.

I wonder if this will ever come to DVD or even DVD-R.
