Can you please help me pick my next DVD? =)

Hey there!

I have a gift certificate for a DVD and I'm thinking about the following:

Ed Wood - Special Edition
Rose Red (the King-miniseries)
The Changeling - With Peter Medak commentary
Signs
The Hole
D-Tox (Eye-See-You with Sly Stallone)

Ok, I know D-Tox sounds bad but I really want to see it ... and I've heard a lot of great things about The Hole. The Changeling is a classic, of course, but I haven't seen it and I'm a sucker for haunted hause films, which is why Rose Red is also on this list. Signs was fun and scary. And Ed Wood is one of Burton's best films and the only one I need to complete my Burton collection (plus it has tons of extras!)

So ... what do you think I should get??

I would say Ed Wood is the best of the list but beware Dtox. I thought I would like it but it is not good.

Well, Ed Wood wasn't there so I just took The Changeling ... hope I'll like it

ED WOOD... the best of the bunch, both in terms of as a film and as a DVD.

Stuff like Rose Red, Eye See You, Signs and The Hole are probalby best reserved as rentals. Its been ages since I saw the Changling so I wont comment on it due to fuzzy memory.

Well, I really enjoyed D-TOX. It is a bit formula, but it is well done, with lots of atmosphere - a lot like the Thing in that regard (men trapped in a remote building in a frozen waste, with a murderer in their midst). As I said, it gets to be a bit formula, but overall, I like the film and am glad I own it.

Out of those though, The Changling is the way to go. I'm embarrased to admit that I have not gotten around to owning this yet myself - but it's a brilliant film.

Ed wood

I saw Lugosi in a light I've never seen before. I have huge respect for everyone (rather their real life counterparts) in this film.

Top notch Burton.

Is Ed Wood finally out?
Last I heard it was delayed again, with no new date set.

Eye say get Eye See You. I really enjoyed it - more than I thought I would. Definitely reminiscent of The Thing as dwatts said. The Changeling was pretty good also. I thought Signs was terribly overrated.

I think I'll get D-Tox/Eye See You eventually (I actually think I'll get all of these films eventually), but I really liked Signs. It's the only M Night Shyamalan film that I've liked so far.

I rented D-Tox yesterday ... what a bunch of crap. Easily the worst edited film I've ever seen in my life. Add to that a bad script, career worst performances from most involved and you've got a film I'm really glad I didn't buy ... Really, really bad.

Each to their own. You and I must be at different ends of the planet when it comes to movies though. If you truly believe what you're saying, I doubt we'd agree on much. It really is an pretty good little thriller.

What was wrong with the editing?

The fact that every single dialogue scene either ends abruptly or goes from one subject to another in a flash suggests that much of the stuff ended up on the cutting room floor. And then there were just some weird editorial choices, like cutting to hallways, then to a character being afraid and then to Sly talking to Polly Walker ... it was just annoying.

Ok, I may have been a bit harsh on the actors though - Sly was quite good, but Robert Patrick and Tom Berenger felt strange. Personally, I'd have loved to see more of Kris Kristofferson and Dina Meyer ...
