Exclamation Exorcist remake for TV

the remakes just never stop.... from fangoria.com:

June 24: THE EXORCIST to be remade for TV?!

Did the power of Satan compel them? Sci Fi Wire reports that Warner Bros. has sold remake rights to THE EXORCIST to its sister cable TV stations TNT and TBS. As a result, director William Friedkin and William Peter Blatty are suing the studio—but over lack of payment of profits from the movie, not due to creative concerns. While the idea of redoing THE EXORCIST for a basic cable station might seem like an impossibility, bear in mind that TNT just wrapped a televersion of SALEM’S LOT (tentatively scheduled to air next summer), so it’s clearly not put off by horrific material. In any case, the Friedkin/Blatty/Warners case has a trial date set for July 14. Just for the record, Blatty himself once planned to write and direct an EXORCIST remake for Fox TV.

Well, let me be the first to speak for us all by saying "It's about fucking time!" The original was god-awful and definitely doesn't live up to the hype its received. The only way this story can be done justice is in a "movie of the week" format on TNT. Ted Turner has done a great service to movie viewers in the past by colorizing old B&W "classics". It's time to put that old horse out to pasture and get jiggy with the 21st Century!

Well, NBC rocked the world with the seriously good CARRIE....maybe TNT will do the same. Let's hope so! They are the ones who introduced me to THE EXORCIST

I'm sorry but I am so sick and tired of horror film remakes. I just don't understand remaking a film that is great in it's original form. To me it just shows a total lack of creativity/originality in most Hollywood films & American T.V. Sure - they can put a new twist on a film....but why?!?!
Why don't they remake a god-awful film into something great?
The original Exorcist is great to begin with (as is: Psycho, Dawn of the Dead, The Haunting, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House on Haunted Hill, Suspiria...and so on and so on)........
Okay....I have to admit that I did enjoy the Night of the Living Dead remake (but that was directed by Savini. Need I say more?)

Angry If It Aint Broke... don't fix it!

I wondered for quite a long time when this was going to happen....

The original Exorcist, imho, is perhaps the most horrifying movie I have ever seen and I really don't know how it could possibly be improved or made even scarier. Maybe this version will go in a whole different direction and focus more on "drama" than the "horror". Just a guess. And while I admit I am curious about this re-telling of the classic movie and what actors and actress are going to try to fill the shoes of the legendary roles of the characters {especially Regan MacNeil}, and I will probably most likely watch it when it airs, I highly doubt it will ever be a favorable comparison to the original.

just my two cents worth!

....Captain Howdy says "hello!"

Good god. Is it wrong to say that I'm grateful it won't be a Sci-Fi original picture?

a) You definitely don't speak for everybody. Many love this film. If its "fly on the wall," documentary-feel doesn't work for you, maybe a CGI filled version with a rock soundtrack would....
I'd say The Exorcist is the finest horror film ever made.

b) The hype was created by the public reaction and the reaction from the Catholic church. Cinemagoers were warned of the "dangers" of the film by members of the Catholic church which can only have added to the experience.

c) Back in '73, the content of the film was truly shocking. I doubt this film would be made half as effective today ("You know what she did, your c******g daughter?").

This film remains my favourite horror......

I really have a hard time understanding how anyone can put down the Exorcist. it is such a classic.

In my opinion it is the closest any movie has ever come to being the perfect Horror film.

I think it would be interesting to see a remake. If it sucks, awell,I still have the original on dvd so I can go back to that.I liked the remake (mini-series) of The Shining that was on tv.It seemed to go into a little more detail. So if they can do the same for Excorcist,go ahead. If not, like I said,we still have the original.
