Don't you hate it when this happens...

... when a company releases two DVDs of a certain movie (widescreen and full screen) and you accidentally buy the full screen because you didn't bother to check the box? That happened recently to a friend, but he didn't care, because he really doesn't understand the difference between full and widescreen. But it was annoying as hell to me when I watched the movie with him!!

Has this happened to anyone?

No, but my kids have received dvd's as gifts and a couple times have been full screen.I don't really mind too much because they're children's movies, and I hardly watch them. (Scooby Doo,Grinch, Stuart Little)

Yeah, my friend did it with Minority Report.

I didn't feel like borrowing it afterwards.

Maybe he should buy nothing but fullscreen now (heh)

Some movies have both fullscreen and widescreen on the same disc. Why doesn't every company practice this? It would seem somewhat less wasteful.

As for an answer to the topic, I've never accidentally bought full screen. The movie being in widescreen is the first thing I look for.

way back before i was serious about dvds my mate told me he ordered 2 copies of matrix and mummy by accident.. so when they both arrived he sold me a copy of each.. i never noticed that the mummy was widescreen until a few months later when i checked it again after id worked out what the difference was on other movies... i then checked the box of the 2nd copy (the one he kept) a few weeks later to find that it was widescreen.. id say my mate ripped me off! i barely see the sneaky bugger anymore anyway

I'm really picky when shopping for DVDs, so I never get the wrong one.

Fuck yea.. Almost did that again yesterday at BB. I picked up the movie bring the House and I saw the front being FULL SCREEN,... So I turned my ass around and put it back on the shelf and picked up WIDE-Screen.

The only one that I had bought went home and notice I got full screen was AMERICAN PIE... still shrink wraped though.....
Shit I knew I should of have taken it back... argghhh.

God I hate that! I want to get "Bringing Down the House" in widescreen and I have to go to walmart.....so that means I have to dig through 80,000 foolscreens to get to a widescreen. Blech. Their website for the dvd says they have widescreen and foolscreen, but when you click on either one, it says under the special features: 1.33:1, Motified from it's original version...formatted to fit your tv. This has gotta stop: universal, columbia (they do the double sided crap) and Buna Vista/Miramax!

Well, for some odd reason, most companies feel it's necessary to waste money and produce a full screen version along with the widescreen. Like anyone besides an idiot would want to buy that...

Frankly, I think they do it purposefully, just to make it hard on horror fans who are so excited they just go into the store without looking at the box and pay for it.

I like it better when Columbia puts both on one DVD. That way it's not confusing and they're not wasting money to produce another completely unnessessary DVD.

Mortis- Sadly, no. I have to go shopping for that cruel institution (I hate saying it cause it seems that summer is almost over) and when I go, I'm getting it. And we only go to walmart.
