Guinea Pig Series. Love or Hate?

Just finished watching the Mermaid in the Manhole and what a movie I must say. I hear it's the best film in this series and has got a lot of respect from gore hounds aside from the review of this site and some others.

If this is movie is on the same level as the rest of the series then I don't think I'll be watching them anytime soon.

What do you guys think of this series.

I've only caught the first release from Unearthed Films - Devil's Experiment / Android of Notre Dame.

My mini-review was posted some time ago:

http://www.horrordvds.com/vbulletin/...n+of+the+month

I hate myself for saying it, but I kind of enjoyed the double bill.
It brought back memories of watching the "video nasty" movies of the '80s as a teenager. I knew I shouldn't have been watching them as they were banned but that was all part of the perverse pleasure. The Guinea Pig films are way past the levels of acceptability for UK censors and will never see the light of day here (on the shelves of the local record store, etc.) so part of the pleasure of watching a Guinea Pig is the knowledge that it's not available down at the local Blockbuster.

I wouldn't watch a Guinea Pig film often but I do enjoy the experience of viewing such a DVD. It's a trip into darkness that you don't receive from many movies (although the August Underground films sound to be very strong competition indeed!).......

I like He Never Dies.
The lead actor has sort of a Jerry Mathers/Leave it to Beaver delivery that cracks me up.

I only seen the two on the first Unearthed Films release and I didn't find much too like about it. I wouldn't mind checking the rest of the series out though.

I picked up the German boxset some time ago but have yet to even watch'em, since it's still sealed I've been thinking about selling it on eBay and buy the Unearthed Films release since they at least have extras.

I've been wanting to check these out lately, but I don't know which disc to try out. I'm guessing the one with DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT, as it's supposed to be a good representation of the films, but I don't know for sure.

Although I've never seen it, Flowers of Flesh and Blood is supposedly the best, plus it has a making of on the same disc. If the movie sucks at least you get to see how some of the gore effects were made.

I love DEVILS EXPERIMENT, FLOWERS OF FLESH and BLOOD and MAKING OF GUINEA PIG, but they rest all blow in my opinion.

I still havent seen GUINEA PIG SLAUGHTER SPECIAL, but I think that one looks like it'll be a definate winner.

Jeff pretty much sums it up, the rest are too arty. Well, arty isn't the right word, just call them crap.

I own all 3 releases by Unearthed and would definitely reccommend Flower of Flesh and Blood the most... Its the grossest and most effective in the series... but also has quite a bit of special features and cool menus. YOu will feel you got your moneys worth much more than DEvils Experiment, which has no features at all and the other movie on the disc is shit IMO. Just me two cents
