Exclamation JAWS 3 in region 2

Although UNIVERSAL waited a year to release JAWS 2 on dvd, they are releasing 2, 3 and 4 as of July 30th in the UK.

While the JAWS 2 disc features the same extra as Region 1, the other installments are widescreen/16X9/trailers.

Although JAWS THE REVENGE is available from Goodtimes (and I personally dislike the film), I would like to own JAWS 3 in a widescreen format and will probably get this.

I'm just curious as to why Universal is neglecting to wait on releasing the rest of the series in the US.

The info FYI:

Universal Pictures Video have announced "Jaws 2" "Jaws3" and "Jaws- The Revenge" for release on July 30th. Although all three disks are available separately although there is a '3 for 2' offer at participating retailers. "Jaws 3" and "Jaws - The Revenge" are relatively plain disks featuring just the trailer, however "Jaws 2" has the following features:

JAWS 2

Audio: Mono
Aspect ratio: 16 x 9
Running time: 116 mins
"45 min Making of documentary"
"John Williams documentary"
"Keith Gordon documentary"
"Joke with director featurette"
"Inserts"
"Trailer"

JAWS 3

Audio: mono
Aspect ratio: 16 x 9
Running time: 98 mins
"Trailer"

JAWS: THE REVENGE

Audio: Stereo
Aspect ratio: 16 x 9
Running time: 86 mins
"Trailer"

Damn! Would have at least made a decent box set!

I missed Jaws 3 in theatres, but I think it would be great if Universal went back and gave us the DVD in both 3D and non. I imagine they could fit it on a single dual layer disc, seeing as they could use the same audio track. Jaws 3 was a fairly good sequel, but boy was The Revenge ever a crap fest.

This is a wild guess, but I'm probably the only user here who actually likes "Jaws 4". Sure, it's the weakest of them all, but it looks a whole lot damn better in widescreen than on the old pan & scan tape. And the shark's still a dummy, not "Deep Blue Sea"-CGI, like it would've been today. -You gotta love that fact. I also think it has some memorable, if goofy, lines. Regarding "Jaws 3", I already have it in widescreen on PAL tape, but I can't wait for that DVD.

I really hope Universal is just testing the waters (pun intended)with Jaws 3 to see if it's popular enough to warrant a full-blown american special edition in the same fashion as the others. True, it's a bad picture compared to the first two but it still has its moments and qualities, even if it's in a campy sort of way. It was fairly big budgeted and decent-looking and good fun. Jaws 4 I could live without even though if it were to be given an extras-filled DVD I would probably buy it. Back to the Jaws 3 DVD, I want some commentary tracks with the crew and actors involved. A nice documentery looking at the making of and the traditional director-debacle surrounding the Jaws-movies. A batch of trailers and a promo-material gallery to top it off and that would be just enough. And yeah, of course both a 3-D and regular version of the film included on the disc would be dandy.

Since Universal usually releases the same supplements in all regions, I would guess that JAWS 3 & JAWS THE REVENGE will be release stateside in stand alone editions.

The widescreen VHS of JAWS 3 has been available in the UK for a long time, but it has never shown up letterboxed in the US. Since it was filmed 2.35:1, I feel the film, while not exactly a classic, still deserves a better home video presentation.

The sequels are being released overseas with a "buy 2 get 1 free" promotion which I think would be kinda cool and probably help sell the entire trilogy.

Yes, I am impatient and have preordered the DVD.

Hell, I've never even seen any of the JAWS sequels and still have the 2-VHS set. I'm scared I'll make the wrong purchase, there are 4 of the recent releases, they either have DD-5.1 or DTS and P&S or WIDESCREEN. I'll end up just getting the DTS WIDESCREEN one in a year or two, but I dunno.

And actually, although they used quite a bit of CGI (yes, it can be your friend) I liked Deep Blue Sea. The killing off of one of the main characters was quite bold (for a movie with 2 Hollywood names, one being a rapper) and I was surprised. I think I'll end up buying it not too far down the road.

I would buy JAWS 3 if it came out in a nice SE or even barebones. This sequel's a step down from the other two, but it's still entertaining.
I had a bad experience seeing JAWS 3 in the theater. The air conditioning broke down in the middle of a nasty summer. People were passing out in the aisles.
My theater experience with The Revenge was worse. A revolt broke out in the packed building. People were fighting in the aisles and throwing shit at the screen. Bad stuff.

Deep Blue Sea was a good popcorn movie.

On the other hand when was the last time Universal released something bare-bones and half-assed in the states? I think they'll either wait a year or so and then add some nice supplemental material to increase the purchase value or they just ignore releasing the title for the forseeable future hoping nobody cares. Hope it won't be the latter route. Or maybe it'll be just like you say and I don't have to worry about buying the UK-version now and then finding out an american special edition is on it's way.

And oh I forgot, like you said evileye in your first post. Why is it that Universal has neglected to release these sequels first in US like they do with every other release? Or at least have released them simultanousely with the UK-editions. It makes me wonder if they in fact got something up their sleeves. One can hope.
