Question About Session 9

Wassup everybody

I finally found Session 9....bought it and watched it. Now I have a question...

WARNING!!!! SPOILERS BELOW!!!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, STOP READING!!!!

Ok...now twice during the movie, I fell alseep (not because it was boring, I was just tired as hell) however, I literally was only asleep for 5 minutes. Now I understand "Session 9" is the 9th tape in the collection of doctor-patient interviews that the guy is listening to.....then the first guy, Hank, disappears and David Caruso tells the rest of the crew that he skipped to Miami to go to Casino School. Anyway...all of a sudden, the boss of the Hazmat crew starts killing his workers, although it looks like he's dreaming it. So, what I actually got out of it, was that "Mary" (the voice on the tapes with 3 personalities) had possessed him....or at least her 3rd personality did. In the end you hear the doctor on the tapes ask her last personality where he lives, and he says something like "in the weak and wretched", or something to that effect. So, I assumed that last personality possessed the boss and he really did murder everyone. Was I right....can someone please break it down to me...I might have missed a vital piece of info in the movie...

Hmm... I don't own this one myself, but my mate does. I haven't seen it in... about 5-6 months, however. If I recall, the boss was once a patient there himself, and he started killing off everyone because he just "breaks down." I didn't think there was a more definate relation between him and 'Mary.' However, I could be wrong, so how about we wait for someone who's seen it more recently to respond?

Joker, that is what I derived from the film as well. My take is that Simon possessed Mary to make her kill her family, and he then possesses Gordon to do the same. Gordon was NOT a former patient. Remember when Gordon and the others are first checking out the building, Gordon hears Simon say "Hello, Gordon.", so the possession starts taking hold that early on. Plus, the end quote adds more truth to that theory.

I really took it as he was just nuts. But your interperation does really make sense so your prob right.
I just didnt see him being possessed because he killed his wife before even taking the job right? Or was this the same day as he got the job?

It was the same day he got the job and after he first heard Simon speaking to him.

My take was also that a "presence" had overcome Mary during a particularly vulnerable point in her life. Gordon was also at a vulnerable point in his life (stress at home, business about to close), leaving him open to the same presence, which had presumably been hanging around the hospital since Mary's death. Remember that Gordon killed his wife and baby long before the end of the movie, when he finished everyone else off.

It's one of those movies that makes you think. I definitely like dmeister's take on it.

To further elaborate on my take, recall that Mary essentially "lost it" after her brother had terrified her and physically hurt her, allowing the "presence" to overcome her. The presence, called Simon, then takes it upon himself to kill the rest of her family while he was at it. (I call it a "presence" since the filmmakers apparently didn't want us to know specifically what we were dealing with.)

After getting the job at the hospital, and exposing himself to the same presence (who actually greets Gordon in one scene), Gordon goes home to celebrate with his wife. After a spat, in which Gordon is irritated by his unresponsive wife and crying baby and physically injured by scalding water, he also "loses it" and allows the presence to overcome him. He then proceeds to kill them both. The guilt over this act essentially drives Gordon insane, since he obviously loved his family very much, and this fact, combined with the general tension and paranoia at the worksite, leaves him open as a conduit for the evil actions of the presence.

So, finally, the presence has him kill everyone he can, and leaves Gordon sobbing in a state of complete insanity and profound despair. This part, in particular, was extremely well done, and seeing Gordon sitting in a fetal position, crying into a broken cell phone while apologizing to his dead wife and begging to come home was very moving for me.

that's not an interpretion as much as its what the film is about. if you pay attention, its easy to know whats happened.

Great movie i just watched it myself.. some real creepy moments too.. as i'm sort of scared of the dark.. well i would be in that place anyway

i also got the same impression as dmeister
