will work for good horror movie

hey everybody. With it being summer and I have some free time on my hands, I feel like tracking down some good horror movies. I am looking for recommendations of good horror movies, but that are going to take some work to find (ie. don't recommend the exorcist or evil dead). The more obscure the better. Because, seriously who isn't looking for a rare horror gem these days??

.......Audition. Personally, I found the pacing just right. The slow burn of this movie works perfectly.

I'd also recommend Evil Dead Trap if you haven't caught this one. Superb entertainment. The first film to frighten me for years!

Me too, dvd Connoisseur! i've just heard some bitches about the pace. I was warning people who may wonder or have similar ideas that have yet to see the film

This is one cool film, too bad they don't make TV movies like this anymore. You also might want to check out Scarecrows.

How about Night of the Scarecrows? There's one by that title at Blockbuster.

Check out Cemetery Man if you haven't seen it yet.

Since I failed to mention it in my last post, "DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW" despite being a TV MOVIE, is available to rent.

You want goofy Euro-fun, try "The Devil's Nightmare," available on DVD from Image (via Redemption). Stupid, but actually kind of interesting, and a lot of fun to watch. Guilty pleasure from childhood and a permanent fixture in my collection.

Probably OOP now like some of the early Image stuff, and probably NOT at your local Blockblunder.

Definitely not at mine.

Ice From The Sun (hard to get ahold of, I bought it from it's distributor... which is about the only way. Available on DVD in a pretty tight little package. I enjyed it.)

In The Woods (another one that is hard to find, but not as obscure as Ice, this is Dead Alive's only DVD release so far and it's pretty pricy I got mine from Amazon.com, but it is an ambitious little horror film nonetheless and I say give it a shot.)

The Dark (Neve Campbell's first feature... yes, before she became the teeny bopper most assume she is she was making horror films, this one about a subterainian creature who feeds on corpses, a neat little film throw-back to 80s kitish, available on DVD though long out of print, one of those films to keep an eye out for.... big bucks on eBay, but I found a copy at Wal-Mart for $10)

Believe (a ghost story geared more for a younger audiance I guess as it is PG, but fun anyways, I picked up a copy at Fry's for only $5... letterboxed, non-anamorphic... but great picture and quality sound... deffinatly worth checking out)

Gossip (much overlooked film, got alot of unjustly negative press, but it's slick, cool and fun and a rocking ending!)

The Bone Yard (hard to trach down, but fun, scary and entertaining... demonoid divas, zombie children and a monstroud werewolf/poodle... DVD lists as letterboxed, it is not, fulframe but so much better thent he VHS edition, has some pretty cool extras, Fry's for $14)

Bleeders ($6 was well worth the price on this little flick, bizarre bllodlinks and family oddities abound... neat and worth looking for)

Lucinda's Spell (Sex is magic! Witches gather during Mardi Gras to compete at a magical contest in order to bear the only child of Merlin's last decendent... low on the scares, but fun anyways.... one simply must see the obscenely well-endowed Satyer and the witch who dislocates her own jaw in order to service him to believe it)

The Truth About Demons (a blockbuster exclusive here in the states, but very much worth finding)

and VHS....

Dead Inn (fun, mindless entertainment, hard to find I had to buy my copy from and on-line used video seller... but did snag it for $5 plus shipping, I did see a pvt at Blockbuster recently for $10)

Abberation (another mindless but fun film, from Artisan sadly not available on DVD, I got a used VHS for $6 at blockbuster... which is only $2 more then their rentals)

Equinox Knocks (a Hollywood Video Exclusive... not expressly horror, but a hysterical comedy of errors revolving round witchcraft... not particularly steeped in knowledge of the craft, but fun nonetheless)

Pep Squad (another Hollywood Video exclusive about the surreal horrors of high school, the best since Heathers and is everything Jawbreaker wanted to be)

Zombie Toxin (an insane zombie film, filled with song, gore and a Hitler wannabe running amuck... hard to find, but oh so fun!)

The Dead Matter (way above average indie flick about vampires and zombies.... very well written, if not highly acted... a rewarding find!!!)

Savage Harvest (another one hard to track down, an intersting little Evil Dead type film from the guy who made Ice From The Sun, worth checking out)

Curse Of The Blue Lights (fun, badly acted but neat film about ghouls, zombies and an ancient creature getting re-awakened after centures of burial.... if you have seen Spookies and even remotely liked it, you'll ove this)

Santa Sangre (hard to find, but not as obscure as some I have mentioned... has to be seen to be believed)

Creaturerealm: Demon's Wake (fun quickie about a woman on trial for the murder of her husband and the supernatural elements that help her, a second story included is about a lint monster.... too funny!)

Hope you were interested in at least a couple I have mentioned. I tried to think of some that wouldn't be recommended by ten other people, or be films that everyone has heard of. Have fun!

I recommend the 60's brazilian films of Coffin Joe for a good bit of campy fun. The lead character is despite all of his melodramatics, creepy as all hell, and they make effective use of color in This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse. I know it's a corny title, but it's so much fun!

My big underestimated movie: "Anguish" (aka Angusta).
If you've never heard of it before, boy does that movie has a surprise for you after the first 15 minutes!

(anybody know of a DVD in widescreen & original language?)

On the japanese front, "Ring" made me jump out of my chair for the first time in years. Also good here are "Audition" as mentioned before and "Hypnosis".

on the american front, what comes to mind? Maybe "From Beyond" by Stuart Gordon? If that's too easy to find, how about "Galaxy of Terror" by Roger Corman. If you think some of the action sequences are surprisingly well directed, check out the young brat that was holding the camera: James Cameron!

and from Spain I recommend "Tesis", "Abre Los Ojos" and anything (well almost) from Alex de la Iglesia.
