I like it. Its especiaaly interesting if your a Dawn of the Dead fan as you can see the genesis of some of the themes there. Overall its a well done film that paves the way for waht was ahead....that said it is no Martin, or dead film, or Creepshow but it is still enjoyable.

If you are a pretty big Romero fan, then I'd say go ahead and buy it. The commentary is pretty cool with Romero and Lustig. They go into some of the technical aspects of cheap movie making. Here is a cheap copy of the Crazies on DVD here on eBay.

I rented it on DVD awhile back. Looks kinda dated now, but it's a decent low budget film from Romero. I like Andromeda Strain much more personally.

Yeah it is decent, but underwhelming when you consider it in context with Romero's holy zombie trinity or MARTIN. The DVD is solid though, with a great little retrospective of Lynn Lowry. It is very light on gore and more a look at human relations in a time of possible annihilation. It has some really good moments, but the movie never really builds up to anything...it all seems kind of anti-climactic. Worth checking out though, at least.

MARTIN is a great film, one of the best American horror films of the 70s, and that is saying a lot. It is slow moving, but the way Romero makes you feel for the Martin character is so well done. It deconstructs the vampire film, and places it in a modern setting. So Martin thinks he is a vampire, but he is really just an outsider unable to communicate with the rest of the world, much like Dracula has been depicted in other films. Aside from the DEAD trilogy, MARTIN is Romero's only other great film in my opinion. I'd definitely seek out MARTIN before THE CRAZIES if I were you.

the crazies was awful... i gave it a 4/10 on imdb... i kinda wish i'd never seen it since i'm a big fan of romero's work... it blew my image of him as a solid filmmaker... i'd highly advise you not to buy it... try renting it from netflix first if you want to give it a shot

I just watched my dvd last night. The Blue Underground dvd is very good quality with interesting supplements and I am glad I got it. However, the movie, while interesting, was kind of underwhelming. I think I was expecting more gore and less chatting, but what can you do? I may give it another spin soon, to see if going in without expectations of massive amounts of gore would enable me to enjoy it more.
