Maniac

I am a huge fan of the Anchor Bay tins, and with the Maniac tin right around the corner, I have a question. Ok, I have not seen the film at all. Could some of you fine upstanding members reply with some opinions so I can get a clear picture as to wether or not I want to see this film?

I hated films like Madman, The Killing Hour and Night Warning... so if it's in those leagues I will have to pass. But if it's like say... Just Before Dawn, I'll check it out.

Anything is much appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Sadly, Maniac will not be tinned.

The movie is superb - I already have the Elite LD in my collection and I'm looking forward to purchasing the 2 disc limited edition. There are genuine moments of suspense in this film - it's well worth a look. Be warned, though, the film is violent - Tom Savini's effects take no prisoners.

The 'shotgun scene' alone is a masterpiece. Very cool movie.

Yes - the shotgun blast. Classic, legendary cinematic art. Savini at his finest. Also in Maniac we are treated to the smoldering sensuality that is Caroline Munro. R-r-r-r-owwl-l-l-l-l!!!

It's not going to be a tin? Oh well I really didn't care for the tins anyways. They always just took up too much space. Is it going to be a two disc set like Halloween and Army of Darkness or will it be the size of the House double feature? With 2 disc but only takes up the space of one.

I am still gonna get this movie. I have heard some really good things about this film.

I thought KILLING HOUR was better, but that had a budget, and name stars, NIGHT WARNING was better too in terms of writing. MANIAC is similar to one made year before DONT GO IN THE HOUSE, instead of fire, its kniefs and guns. Violent scenes are VERY violent, BUT there is some SLOW goings in between the violence, they took out 10 minutes to tighten it, but still some slow going on the plot. the ending ending is lame, but then again, thats how most horror/slashers end like that.

Since this film may not be up your alley, Maybe you can JUST buy the tin at ebays or a record store?

Anchor Bay Version vs Elite Version

Is the Anchor Bay version going to be much better than the Elite DVD? Are the special features the same?

It'll have a better transfer and the additional extras look sweet. ("The Joe Spinell Story" documentary, poster/still gallery, elite's commentary, trailers, TV spots, "Gallery of Outrage", poster/still gallery, radio interview with Lustig, Spinell, & Munro, and talent bios.)

NOTE: It doesn't seem to have elite's deleted "Date" scene or the groovy Maniac 2 promo! I'm keeping my elite disc until further notice.

The Maniac 2 promo rocks. I'll definitely be keeping my Elite dvd. I'm really looking forward to AB's disc though, sounds very sweet indeed.

I'm pleased to be wrong. I had read somewhere that the tin had been scrapped - clearly it's still going ahead. Superb news.

Thanks, NMA.

Isn't this just a great cover, with the black background instead of white? It really contrasts much better with the blood and the blue of the jeans. But why, why the hell did they put the Limited Edition banner over the aretwork? I know they want to have a universal look across the tin line, but damn, it's really bad here. Oh well...
