Videodrome 2-disc SE from Criterion!
Yes, finally! I absolutely love this film and been waiting ages for a SE! Check out the news from www.fangoria.com:
"The folks at The Criterion Collection have revealed to Fango that a two-disc special edition of David Cronenberg’s VIDEODROME will be released by the company in August. In addition to a director-approved transfer of the unrated version, the set will include: • Audio commentary by Cronenberg and cinematographer Mark Irwin • Audio commentary by stars James Woods and Deborah Harry • Cronenberg’s short film Camera, created for the Toronto Film Festival in 2000 and starring VIDEODROME’s Les Carlson • A new 30-minute documentary by VIDEODROME video FX artist Michael Lennick about the movie’s landmark makeup and special FX • Fear on Film, a half-hour roundtable discussion from 1982 between Cronenberg, John Carpenter and John Landis (all of whom were working on Universal horror films at the time), hosted by director-to-be Mick Garris • Short promotional featurette from 1982, also created by Garris • Trailers • Extensive galleries with makeup test shots, behind-the-scenes photos, publicity stills, marketing materials, etc. • Samurai Dreams—the fake Japanese soft-porn film seen in the movie, presented in its entirety • And more!"

From the same article: "Criterion is also working on a DVD of George Franju’s LES YEUX SANS VISAGE (EYES WITHOUT A FACE), though contents and a street date have yet to be determined." Bummer the date hasn't been set yet.

That sounds fantastic! This really is the year of the Cronenberg special edition. VIDEODROME is not my favorite of his films, but I will not pass up the opportunity to check out all those fantastic features. Now where are those special editions for THE DEAD ZONE, THE BROOD and SCANNERS?

Well god damn, I didn't think I would ever see the day. Now, after this, if they would just do Crash, that would be even better.
Regardless, this is some of the best dvd news I could have gotten. Thanks for sending me off to work in a hella good mood.
