Faccia a Faccia/ Face to Face ~ Sergio Sollima

Probably mentioned before somewhere, but what the hey..

On Blu and DVD:

Quote:
One of the best films from Italian genre master Sergio Sollima (The Big Gundown), Faccia a Faccia (Face to Face ) is a gangbusting western saga and a gripping parable of the rise of fascism. Upstanding history professor Brad Fletcher (played by the incomparable Gian Maria Volonte) is forced into retirement by his poor health and moves west for the warmer climate. Almost as soon as he arrives, however, he is taken hostage by famed bandit Solomon Bennett (the great Tomas Milian) in an accidental confrontation, and by necessity is forced to take up with his cohorts. But the learned man's growing identification with the gang encourages him to stage a takeover from Bennett, and a new crueller system of leadership is put into place.

Produced by Sergio Leone's longtime partner Alberto Grimaldi, featuring stunning Techniscope cinematography, and a pounding score by il maestro Ennio Morricone, this long-requested Italian western makes its first appearance on Blu-ray anywhere in the world from a beautiful high-definition master, with both English and Italian soundtracks.

Due for release on 15 November 2010
I definitely NEED this! I almost bought the now OOP and expensive Sollima boxset. No need for that now

Gets the highest rating (of the three Sollima westerns) @ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061636/

According to a poster over at the Mobius Forum "Sad to relate that the BBFC website records 93m34s for the new Eureka release. As this is blu ray I assume its at 24fps and this is therefore probably the same cut print previously released on VHS."

Looks like this release will be cut.

Here's a quote I found. Dunno who wrote it, so don't blame me

Quote:
"As some of you may have read (I told Paul on the phone the other day but forgot to post about it) the Eureka Blu Ray looks like it was going to be the short version, a member from the Spaghetti Western DataBase contacted them and this is the reply they recieved:

"Hiya,

We're searching for materials at the moment and we've postponed the release for a few months. Thanks for your interest!

Best wishes,

Nick Wrigley
Founder & Director"

Well worth the wait if they are sorting it for the longer cut of the film."
I'm positive again !

Well, not far away now apparently. Release date AFAIK is now June 20th for the DVD. No date for the BD yet.
There were some issues in the past about this one if memory serves right.
Hopefully the DVD will be great.

Looks good enough to me, not pristine, but still good. Never seen this, but I just know I'll enjoy this one!

It's a great film and if you haven't bought it yet, you might consider this one:
http://shop.dtm.at/product_info.php?...ducts_id=49154

2 discs and although it's not very obvious, I think I know what's on the second disc
Quote:
* 24-stg. Booklet mit Informationen zu Film und Darsteller

* Dokumentation über den Film mit Interviews (Sergio Sollima, etc.)
* Diverse Trailer und Vorspänne zum Film
* Super-8-Fassung des Films
* Fotogalerien
* Soundtrack
* Fotoroman
I don't need the double dip. The UK DVD is great. But this new DVD seems like a great deal as well.

Earlier in the week I watched the disc Crystal Plumage recommended a couple posts back. Amazing! I'd probably rank it third after the first two DOLLARS films (also starring Gian Maria Volonte). Had I been watching FACE TO FACE since I was a kid the nostalgia factor might allow to claim its the best western I've seen.

Due to the reputation and scarcity of FACE TO FACE I was waiting for a blu-ray. I do recommend the Eplosive Media disc. The PQ and sound well more than adequate. Fine detail is often very noticeable. If I had a complaint, the colors could be a bit more vibrant.
